Tom’s Palette homemade ice cream parlour has been serving ice cream since September 2005. Their traditional homemade ice cream is made from scratch using egg, milk, cream and sugar. Tom’s Palette has been creating one new flavour of ice cream every month and there is a wide variety to choose from.
My friends and I were served with a smile. The service crew is friendly and generous with the handing out samples for us to taste. They seem happy to serve my request, and are very initiative in recommending flavors and mixtures for me to try. The medium cup is more than enough to consume after a meal, and we went to our seats happily after we paid for our ice cream with student discounts.
My favorite flavors are Granny’s Favorite and Mango Sherbet. I like how the former tastes creamier, like rum, and the other refreshing and light.
It is a good place to hang out with your friends and chat while having ice cream. If you are quite afraid of the cold, do bring an outer wear because the air conditioning had gotten way cold in the midst of eating.
If I happen to be in the area, I'd like to have pasta at the Creation Café, then head over to Tom’s Palette for dessert since they are both in Shaw Towers. I am keen to try out other flavors but lazy to head down unless I have arranged a date with my friends there.
The spacious unit is good for casual hangouts with friends over a delicious scoop or two, enjoying classic flavours executed incredibly well like tiramisu and cookie dough as well as the more wacky ones like salted egg yolk and even...soy sauce.
The service here is really impeccable and I'd like to give a special shout out to Amanda. She was so warm and friendly, generously doling out her personal recommendations one after the other because my friends and I just had to no idea which flavour to choose out of all those yummy looking ones on offer. And she didn't scrimp on the free samples, too!
I would definitely frequent Tom's Palette often if not for the fact that they are located in an obscure location. The store takes on a fun and chill concept, making it a great place to hangout at with friends. Worth the trip every time!
Expectations probably killed it for me. Other than serving really (really) exotic flavours, I didn't think much of the place. The ice cream is mediocre, and the flavours were strange. If they're exotic but good, it would be fine. But the flavours tasted a little too weird for my liking. Even the top pick, Granny's flavour, was kind of weird. The waffles were also subpar. But for those of you who love rich and thick chocolate, go for the Chocolate Sorbet. It will be satisfying.
That said, the service staff was lovely. They were friendly and let my friends and I take our time to taste and pick the flavours we wanted. Also, there's a 10% off for most Singaporean university cardholders!
We came to the conclusion that Tom's Palette is a novelty because of its obscure location.
I often have lunch/dinner at Ah Loy Thai or Creation Café before heading over to Tom's Palette for desserts but I also have walked 10mins under the hot blazed sun from Bugis MRT to Shaw Towers specially just for Tom's Palette ice cream.
They have super exotic flavors like Salted Egg Yolk, Sarsi, Salted Caramel Cheesecake and Coffee Cheese. Sometimes I take up to 10 minutes just to decide on the flavors to purchase because I am that spoiled for choice. (If anyone of you is from the friendly Tom's Palette team, I apologize for being a difficult and indecisive customer)
I highly recommend Granny's Favourite, which is chocolate molten ice cream with cookie dough. Oh, and tertiary students get 10% discount. If you're up for some ice cream on a chilly day, they also have 10% discount on rainy days for the general public.
All I can say is: forget the calories and eat your hearts out.
Having a 'weird' taste in ice-cream flavours, I especially like their sarsi and apple pie ice-cream. There is also this chocolatey flavour called Grandma's Favourite, which has bits of cookie dough inside the ice-cream -- definitely worth a try! Note that for any size, you can take up to two flavours, which is great if you are looking to try more flavours!
The place may be a little small and cramp, so you may need to find your own place if you are with a lot of friends, or you can always do takeaway!
So take a break from the commonly talked about ice-cream places like Baskin Robbins and Ben & Jerry's! Instead, give Tom's Palette a go and you won't regret it. Well, I sure did not!
I tried Grandma’s Favorite and the only topping inside that I remembered was the cookie dough. It is my favourite topping and the reason why I ordered it while my 2 other friends ordered the typical rum and raisin. Without a doubt, this flavour was our favourite amongst the ice cream flavours we all chose.
Truly satisfied with the service and the brightly lit place. It is a refreshing change from Udders.
The portion is just nice- not too little that you find them stingy nor too much that you get sick of it- and the price is worth its quantity and value.
With its attractive, colourful and vibrant displays, it definitely caters to youth at large, with discounts for students who present their student card. Even the table designs are personalized!
On a side note, they serve free flow of water, so to those who do not have much of a sweet tooth, fret not!
I don't usually eat egg, much less salted egg yolk, but I hate to admit that Tom's Palette's ice cream version was really good. Their menu changes daily I think, so don't go with a particular flavour in mind. Be prepared to be surprised, especially if there is a traditional festival around the corner!
Only trouble with Tom's Palette is that it's out of the way for a lot of people. There's not much else to do in Shaw Towers, except perhaps the Thai restaurant.
The quirky ice cream flavors at Tom’s palette all sound really intriguing, like Granny’s favourite, Rudolph, melt and sizzle. I really have to give it to them for coming up with such cute names, just hearing them makes you salivate! In the end we choose Salted egg yolk (wanted to try something unique!), Green tea, Apple pie and Chocolate sorbet. I feel that I must specially mention the salted egg yolk flavor because I was so amazed! I’m someone who loves eating the egg yolk inside mooncakes, and if you are like me than you are in for a big surprise because this flavor tasted exactly like that except it was ice cream of course! Wow! A must-try!!
This small ice cream place seems to be a huge hit though, as it is always full of customers whenever I am there, and I can understand the appeal, even if I am not a huge fan myself. Worth a try still!
