Ambience wise, the dim atmosphere is perfect for couples on dates. Looking out from the restaurant is a view of the swimming pool where its water glitters in the moonlight adding romance in the air. You can request the trio singers to come to your table to play a song to charm your date too :)
The restaurant was located in Mandarin Orchard so you can park at Mandarin Orchard. There is no complimentary parking even if you dine at their restaurants so be prepared to pay a high parking fees.
The buffet came with a wide selection of food, as usual, my wife targeted the salmon sashimi, it was a bit troublesome getting the sashimi because there was a chef cutting the fish for you so if you went there too many times, you would be afraid that the chef can recognise you. I was a bit thick skinned when it came to buffet and I went back for sashimi at least five times and I felt that each time, the chef gave me lesser. May be I had exceeded the unwritten quota.
The Chefs are also very friendly and chit chat with you as you are queueing for the food. Also their Sashimi and seafood are top class. Super fresh and you can just eat slice after slice. :D One word to describe this experience? A resounding BURP! :)
Some of the desserts were good but ultimately forgettable, and so was the sushi section. The chilli crab was nothing to rave about, and we found it too sweet. We did like the soba and a few items at the live cooking station and the roast meat in the Chinese section but that was about all.
I really like their cooked food the most, and their cooked cod fish is heavenly!! You can have almost everything here- nasi lemak, pasta! Desert is however, the usual standard that you can find at most buffets. Fruits, ice cream and cakes are available. However, I don't find their cakes very yummy and usually skip them.
But this is a place that you can consider going if you are ever in town and in the mood to splurge on good food!
I was firstly very impressed by the staff handling their reservations via phone/email. They provide not detached professionalism, but instead friendly yet polite service. During the meal itself, the waitress who served us was full of smiles and efficient yet thoughtful so much so that I couldn't not commend her in the feedback form.
The food unfortunately did not suit my family's palate, as there were many strong-flavoured dishes such as those which are smoked or fried. Thankfully, their salmon sashimi was excellent. It was fresh, well-cut, and most importantly consistently topped-up, so we ate multiple portions of it easily. The roasted duck was crisp on the surface (skin) and juicy on the inside (meat), so I recommend that as well.
They serve quality ice-cream with many toppings to choose from. My personal favourites were the strawberry/green tea flavours, and the lime sorbet. I wouldn't try the tiramisu cup nor bread pudding again though.
Lastly, I wish that they'd include a wider selection of drinks, as they only serve hot beverages (the coffee's really aromatic though) and iced/warm water.
