Teadot is a must-try, modern tea cafe that reinvents tea with a strong focus on taste and health by offering truly unique and great-tasting gourmet tea drinks for you and your friends. Standing apart from the 100+ coffee places all over Singapore, teadot is the only true tea café where the consumers can enjoy a pleasant break from the typical coffee experience.
Located right smack in the middle of Nex, Teadot resides opposite Starbucks almost like a coffee versus tea joint face-off. Both places are popular with students hunting for mugging spots, as well as people who chat over casual things/insurance/contracts (I don't stalk people, but this shows how often I've been there in the past). It is common to see people who can't make their minds up shuffling between the 2.
That aside, Teadot offers a comprehensive range of tea, some of which comes only as a hot drink and some only served ice. Do not be fooled by the fact that it looks like a modern tea joint that produces in mass but doesn't really get its tea - I really love their selection.
I've probably tried almost half the drinks on their menu, but my favourite would be the Yuzu Oolong tea. I would typically request for less syrup so that the bitter and refreshing taste of the tea is not masked by the overwhelming sugar. The bits of real citron peels is also what keeps me ordering this time and again. I haven't seen this concoction served anywhere else, so kudos to Teadot for coming up with this!
Also, you would be surprised to know that they do latte art as well! My friend & I ordered matcha lattes previously just for the extremely cute latte art that they do. Even the hot chocolate drink had a teddy bear done on it! The cute art really made my day - that's how much a happy drink can do for you, other than the fact that it really satisfied my matcha craving.
Definitely a place I'd go back to for my tea fix!
I decided to play on the safe side and bought their mint tea. As i love adding milk and sugar to my tea, the mint tea must have a strong taste of mint in order not for the milk to cover its minty taste. However, their teas are on the slightly mild side which disappointed me.
For such a prominent spot, with heavy traffic flow, the place is quieter than usual maybe because of their pricing.
That aside, I fell in love with their delicious cakes and fragrant tea drinks! The cakes (especially the chocolate ones) made me swoon - delight at the first bite, sadness at the last. My favourite beverage would definitely have to be their iced passionfruit tea - slightly sweet, fragrant and fresh.
Sadly, the Teadot at Tampines One closed down. I probably will not find another branch to spend an afternoon there doing work, since the one at Tampines One was nearest to home and I heard that other Teadot cafes are usually packed. But I'll visit them again for the cakes and tea.
Their cakes are great too! Be sure to try their Yuzu Citrus Cheese.
With prices similar to Starbucks located just opposite (at NEX), somehow Starbucks is more appealing, perhaps of its more attractive menu display. However, teadot is located right in the middle of NEX and thus tends to be noisy during weekends. Depending on the crowd, I would still prefer Starbucks nonetheless.
Despite the name which suggest that teadot is an exclusive haven for aficionados of tea, cuppa lovers need not fret as a quaint section of their menu has been dedicated to satisfy the caffeine addiction of those who need their daily fix.
My friend got herself a green tea matcha drink for about 7 dollars or so. With the little allowance that us students get, we actually found this place rather expensive but decided to give this place a try. The green tea drink was actually really nice, just the right level of sweetness. Despite the bad service, I may actually come back for more delicious green tea drinks!
I tried the Lavender Earl Grey, which I found to be slightly sweet for my liking. However, I'm the sort who prefers unsweetened teas and I think it should be possible to request for less sugar. I felt the selection of beverages was pretty limited. However, my friend, whom I would say is more of a tea connoisseur than I am, rather likes a few of the teas. I also tried the Chicken Pie, which I would say is bigger than most chicken pies. However, I found the filling inside a little too creamy and somewhat mushy.
I would not specially try out this cafe.
Unfortunately, teadot is a new cafe coffee joint that needs more time to establish itself in order to compete with Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf or Spinelli.
I went to Teadot to study with my female friend. Initially, we wanted to study at Starbucks but it was too crowded. Even Teadot was getting full by the minute. After we settled down, i ordered a matcha green tea ice blend in the biggest size. I wanted to order the medium size but the friendly staff that were serving us at the counter persuaded me to upsize for just 45cents more. I love the ice blend. It was smooth, creamy and rich in flavour and the red beans was just the right amount.
Truth be told, my friend and I had an unfruitful studying session that day because there were too many customers in the cafe and because it was open space, noise travels about with a louder pitch and higher frequency. It was unfortunate, to be honest.
This is mostly because teadot at NEX is located at an open area in the middle of the shopping mall. It was rather noisy and wholly unconducive for studying. The decor at teadot is simple and classic, quite spacious with some comfy seats around. However, due to it being in an open area, it lacked the warm lighting and cosy vibe that one would expect from a cafe.
Expect the menu at teadot to differ from other coffee places like starbucks or coffee bean. Teadot's most popular drinks are their range of matcha lattes. I'm a huge fan of matcha and green tea drinks, so i did like the matcha latte that I ordered. It was very smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. The drink sizes at teadot seem smaller than the sizes at starbucks/coffebean, however, the price range for drinks is comparable to that at starbucks/coffeebean.
My personal favorite is the Green Tea (matcha) Latte. Whether served hot or cold, it serves as a pleasantly refreshing drink (and a healthier choice as well). Do note though that unlike other Matcha Lattes served in other places, Teadot does go relatively easier on the sugar so as to allow the all-natural tea flavors to rise to the top. Hence, if you have a sweet tooth, you may wish to ask for additional sugar packets on the side.
As for the ambiance, I used to be in love with the simplistic, spacious and comfortable layout exhibited in the Tampines Branch, located at the edge of the 3rd floor overlooking the atrium of Tampines One. However, it closed down sometime last year. The Serangoon branch is slightly less impressive, but still significantly more comfortable than other coffee places that come to mind. Hence, if you're looking for a comfortable place to spend an afternoon teadot would be a suitable location.
The prices at Teadot do not differ much from what you'd pay at Starbucks or Coffee Bean. However, it brings out a starkly different concept and is certainly worth paying a visit to.
