The Mind Cafe
The Mind Cafe is an ideal meeting place where families, colleagues and friends meet up for board games over good food, snacks and drinks. The Cafe was started by a group of board games enthusiasts who wish to propagate the board games' culture of clean fun and intellectual development. Our objective is to bring people together. Especially so in today’s fast-changing pace, where tradition and personal touch has gradually been taken over by the convenience of internet and technology, our group aims to bring back the quality time spent together. Be it a family outing, company gathering, or simple friends get together, we provide the games suitable for almost all ages.
At a crazily cheap rate of $3 per hour per person, I dragged my friends to this place only to find a crammed room full of noisy boisterous people laughing and screaming hysterically. The staff members were very rude both on call and face-to-face.
Despite having made an mobile reservation prior to our visit, we were denied a seat as it was too crowded. After an hour’s wait, we returned only to find out that our reservation was still not made, but we settled for a seat beside the kitchen and toilet. Although some board games were interesting, they were kept in very poor condition with missing pieces. Overall, a less than satisfactory experience.
Offering different price packages, you’ll only be blowing off about twelve bucks per person for hours of fun. Some of the games resembled soldiers that barely made it back from war, so if you’re picky about the condition of your board games, it’s best to bring your own set from home. From games like Monopoly to Cards Against Humanity, you’re bound to find a game for you.
Be prepared to gain some laughing abs and memorable memories, and come after you’ve had something to eat, as the food isn’t to die for. Oh and to hold your bladder, because the Dhoby branch only had one toilet for both genders.
Back in the past, The mind cafe have special days of the weeks where there's special promotions like ladies night etc. I LOVE to go during ladies night on tuesday for it's complimentary! Plus they give you this huge cup where the drinks are free flow.
The board games that were offered were quite unique for these games are the oldies kind of Snakes and ladders game but instead, they were new fresh and unheard of. These are great for one to explore new boundaries and have a fair play between friends! However, I did noticed that these new games seemed a little complicated and too tedious for one who just want to unwind, relax and play the game lawlessly.
Playing boardgames at The Mind Cafe is definitely great for bonding with your loved ones. They have quite a wide selection of games to pick from so if you get bored, you can simply pick another. My experience with my friends was awesome. It was a day of fun and laughter and that's very different from simply meeting up to have a meal or shop - because honestly, you rarely find people truly communicating with each other.
Simple food and drinks are available as well so no worries about that. Overall, it's great for bonding and worth a visit if you have time to spare!
They serve decent food and drinks and I suggest you be a member if you like to play boardgames because being a member gives you quite a bit of perks
There is food and drinks served at the cafe that is average - both taste & price. The good thing about this place is that there are 'instructors' around to teach you the rules of the games and there are many games that are really unique! (A large range too)
However, it gets a little too noisy for my liking especially when you are sitting beside large groups of jc kids who laugh at the smallest things!
Overall, a great place for class outings and overgrown kids re-living their childhood memories of playing board games.
We were thoroughly wrong and in fact we had a time of our lives, laughing, screaming and getting silly without a care in the world. You get to choose from a wide selection of games to play and mostly those you have never heard off. It is beyond the typical boring snake and ladder games where you use to play when you were a kid.
For those who thought playing games was boring, wait till you come to Mind's cafe and you will be blown away by the amount of fun you can get from playing games but of course you must bring the right group of friends to play with you. The more the merrier. Enjoy!
The Mind Cafe is suited for both large and small groups of people. If there are too many people, you can choose to have two different games in the group and swap when time's up. It's a place where everyone can gather for some laughs and light snacks, and bond over board games. If you are unsure of what games is suitable for your group size, approach any server who will introduce some games to you. However, not all staff at The Mind Cafe is familiar with the vast array of board games available so you might have to wait a little if one of the "game masters" is attending to another table of guests.
There are also food and drinks available so we can eat and play at the same time, and the drinks can be refilled when you have finished it. I do find it a little expensive but since it is a good place for gatherings with friends, I think it is okay if you were to go there once in a while.
Some of the board games that I would recommend are Ticket to Ride and Cluedo.
Challenge your friends and build the longest train road and fulfill your mission cards (which is to build from one destination to another) with the amount of your resources in Ticket to Ride, it is really fun game because there are chances that people would want to block your route.
As for Cluedo, find out where the murder took place, who did it and what weapon they used. Do try it out with your friends and enjoy yourself :)
