The Tanglin Tree
Additional Details:
This eatery, planted on the ground floor of the former Tanglin Post Office, succeeds in its goal to provide a relaxed locale ideal for both singles and families. The concept seems to be working; during weekdays the office crowd takes root, but weekends are abuzz with parents and their saplings clambering over the on-site playground. The food is a bit ho-hum, with some menu items that read well on paper, but fail to meet up with the expectations they’ve set. The soft-shell crab had that day-old aroma and the open-face steak sandwich, once we’d waded through the lettuce and sliced tomatoes, was overdone. But the ambience helps make up for some of these flaws. Another redeeming factor is the desserts, with the antipodean favourite pavlova being an indulgent finale for two. The wine list is also plentiful, and first-rate fresh juices and smoothies will surely nourish your sagging branches.
