Malls are empty, food stalls are queue-free, and a lot of us have been cooping ourselves up at home as an extra precaution against the COVID-19 virus. In fact, many anticipated events like music festivals and exhibitions have been postponed in light of the situation.
Nevertheless, life goes on, and most of us are still going about our daily routines – just with more caution. If you’ve been bored at home and are looking for some fun to while your time away with, here are 16 things to do this March to fill up the empty slots in your calendar. But do remember to wear a mask in crowded places, and please avoid going out if you’re unwell!

Dinner isn’t just dinner when you attend Hurstville: The Heir. Don’t be too down if your travel plans have been postponed, because Bangkok’s famous Chatuchak night market is hopping over for a pop-up. You’ll see the familiar coloured tents full of food and cheap clothing, and a good portion of them are manned by Thais. Now that’s how you know it’s authentic.
Look forward to Thai snacks and dishes like pad thai, sweet potato cake, and spicy baby octopus, and wash that down with a refreshing cup of Thai iced tea. Do bring some wads of cash with you as most of the stalls do not accept cards.

Whether you studied it during Literature class or not, everyone knows that Romeo and Juliet is a love story for the ages. Do your part for the environment and join the World Water Day: TRASH-ure Hunt, where you’ll be helping to pick up rubbish from the shores of Pasir Ris Beach.

Textures 2020 is a festival created with the purpose of appreciating our local literary talents, with a series of performances, exhibitions, and an outdoor interactive experience based on QR codes. While you’re there, check out the #BuySingLit Book Bazaar by Sing Lit Station, where novels and volumes of poetry by Singaporean authors will be sold.

Pottery is making a big comeback, with more and more people wanting to get their hands dirty at the potter’s wheel to spin out their own ceramics. It’s springtime – or at least, the closest to Spring we can get in the tropics. You don’t have to take a flight to Japan for hanami, as Gardens by the Bay is once again holding their Sakura Matsuri exhibition – where the Flower Dome will be transformed into a Japanese landscape full of pink cherry blossoms and striking red torii gates.

If you’re an animal lover, perhaps the Safari Zoo Run might encourage you to get off your bum for a bit. Held at the Singapore Zoo, the race will have you running with wildlife all around you – say hi to the animals as you pass! There are both competitive and non-competitive categories of different distances, so there’s no need to feel daunted even if you’re not the fittest.
As part of the race entitlements, you’ll receive a race top, finisher’s medal, water bottle, retail discounts, and discounted admission to the Night Safari and Jurong Bird Park – on top of free entry to the Zoo. The first 5,000 participants will also get a cute animal plushie keychain.

Singapore Biennale 2020
Running for its 6th year with over 150 artworks spread over 10 different venues, the Singapore Biennale is an absolute treat for anyone who loves art and storytelling. Look forward to activities like a poetry trail, literary-themed bus and even meditation sessions to unwind after a long day.
Originally a ticketed attraction, the event now offers free admission from now all the way till the end of the festival on 22nd March 2020.
