The Downtown Line (DTL) – AKA the Blue Line – is getting a major upgrade with new MRT stations rolling out soon. Hume station is set to open on 28th February 2025 and 2 other stations will follow in the second half of 2026. Besides making our commutes faster, these stations also bring us closer to places that were once less accessible or too far for many of us.
So if you’re looking for your next adventure, here’s a list of things to do near the latest Downtown Line extension MRT stations – Hume, Xilin, and Sungei Bedok.

The upcoming Hume MRT station is parked between Hillview and Beauty World stations. Residents in the area can shave 15 minutes off their travel time when heading downtown. Nature lovers will be pleased to know that their favourite hiking trails are now just a quick train ride away.

Bukit Batok Nature Park is a 3.87km trail surrounded by lush greenery that leads to an old quarry which rests against a mountainous terrain that looks nothing like Singapore. The park’s Lorong Sesuai entry is a mere 11-minute walk from Hume station. Well-maintained paths and gentle terrain make this an easy hike for beginners, and yes – your pets are welcome to scale the trail with you.
Entering from Lorong Sesuai also brings you right to a World War II memorial plaque, so you can make a quick stop there before hitting the trails. It honours the soldiers who lost their lives and serves as a reminder of Singapore’s wartime past.

Just a 7-minute walk from Hume MRT station, the Former Ford Factory is a factory-turned-museum of historical importance because it was where the British forces surrendered to the Japanese. It houses a permanent exhibition on World War II and what life was like under Japanese rule.
You’ll get to explore paintings, pictures, recordings and even oral accounts of this painful period in Singapore’s history. History enthusiasts will enjoy the first-hand experience of learning about our little red dot’s past right from its source.

Located next to Fuyong Estate, the Fuyong Interim Park is a small and peaceful green space with lots to do. Complete with a playground, a fitness corner and a ball court, this park is sure to appeal to every member of the family, whether young or old. For those who just want to relax whilst being surrounded by lush greenery, there are plenty of benches for you to kick back.
It’s just a 10-minute walk from Hume MRT station, so you can easily head there to unwind when you need a breather.
With the opening of Hume station, it will be easier to access attractions like Rail Corridor (Central) – best known for its iconic Upper Bukit Timah truss bridge.

The central region of the Rail Corridor is often said to be the “most walkable,” so it’s perfect for new hikers. If hiking isn’t your cup of tea, you may be persuaded to walk the trail anyway because of the numerous photo ops along the way. Popular photo spots include the truss bridge and the Bukit Timah Railway Station.

Step aside, traditional malls. The Rail Mall, a 7-minute walk from Hume MRT station, is modelled after strip malls commonly found in North America – a different look from what Singaporeans are used to. It’s a little unconventional, but don’t fret, familiar chains like Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Toast Box and Subway are available for those who are feeling snacky.
Aside from the eateries, the mall also has a cat cafe where you can chill, or opt for a painting session in the company of their 14 rescue cats. Admission comes with a complimentary drink of your choice, so you can settle in for a purrfectly good time.
Xilin MRT station, the one right after the Expo MRT station on the Downtown Line, is scheduled to open in 2026. Located near Changi South, the station will serve the industries around Changi Business Park, but don’t let it stop you because it just confirm means that there are hidden gems to find.

When Xilin MRT station opens, it’ll bring you closer to Y Badminton Academy East, which conducts classes for all ages, including children as young as 5. It’s about an 11-minute walk from the station – this is the place to be to meet like-minded fans of badminton, learn a new skill or stay fit. Its proximity to Changi City Point also means that you’ll be spoiled for choice with food and shopping options after a game.

Wall Street Coffeeshop isn’t where people trade stocks – promise. It’s a legit coffee shop with a variety of cuisines to choose from, like Indian, Western, and Chinese fare. It’s a great stop to pop by for a quick and affordable meal when you’re in the area, or when you’re not in the mood for options at the mall.

If you’ve always thought country clubs were only for the ultra-rich or exclusive members, think again. Tanah Merah Country Club Tampines Course opens its doors to guests for access to facilities like their children’s playroom, and karaoke and mahjong rooms. Amenities in the playroom are free of charge, but the karaoke and mahjong rooms are open for bookings from $10.90 per guest.
Swing by the Golfers’ Lounge or Golfers’ Terrace – both open to members and guests – when you’re feeling peckish. Here, you can tuck into local favourites like kaya butter and toast, char kway teow and Hainanese chicken rice. Or switch it up with Korean, Western and Japanese cuisine if you’re craving something different. You’ll also get a prime view of the golf course to watch the golfers in action as you dine.

Sungei Bedok MRT station will be the last stop on the DTL, right after Xilin station. It connects to the Thomson East Coast Line (TEL), so heading to town will be faster and easier than ever.

The newly renovated Bedok Food Centre made its comeback in December last year and foodies have plenty to be excited about. When Sungei Bedok MRT station opens, it’ll just be an 11-minute walk to this food haven – great for those craving good eats in a now airier and cleaner space.
Look forward to over 30 eateries to choose from, including iconic stalls like Yang’s Epok-Epok and Mala Wok. You’ll find a blend of Indian, Malay and even Persian cuisine, making it a sweet hang-out spot to chill with Muslim friends since most of the stalls here are halal-certified.

Oni Kimbap is tucked away in a residential area, but it’s well worth the find – especially when the new Sungei Bedok MRT station opens up. Located just a 5-minute walk from the station, this cosy spot serves up authentic Korean comfort food like kimbap, bibimbap, and tteokbokki from $10-$20.
The Eastwood outlet has seating if you’d like to dine in and enjoy your meal fresh.

If you’re in the mood for an evening stroll, the new station opens up so many possibilities for you to spend your evening – like heading to the Sungei Bedok Jetty at East Coast Park. It’s a spot for chill activities like strolling, fishing, and cycling.
Lugging around a bicycle can be challenging, so skip the hassle and simply rent one from bike rental shops around the park for a breezy ride. For the best vibes, we recommend visiting in the evening, when the weather is cooler and you’ll get to catch the sunset.
