Singaporeans can’t deny our love for JB. It’s become a thing for us to head across the borders for a day trip without batting an eyelid, although we may find ourselves frequenting the same few places. So, instead of Paradigm Mall or KSL City, add THE COMMUNE, a newly opened lifestyle mall in JB, to your JB itinerary this weekend.
The mall is located in Kulai, a town in Johor, Malaysia where the Johor Premium Outlets (JPO) also are. It’s a 45-minute drive from the Woodlands checkpoint, and we recommend getting a Grab from JB Sentral if you’re not driving to JB, which will cost around RM43.
Sports enthusiasts can venture to the highest level of the mall for a friendly match in the spacious sports facilities. The mall boasts 10 indoor badminton courts and 2 premium basketball courts which are free to use for all visitors. Make a booking by calling +60 018-364 9551 or via the AFA app (App Store | Google Play).
There’s also a multi-purpose hall for hosting events and festivals. So far, there have been kid-friendly activities like an inflatable playground and one-day flea markets featuring small local businesses. Check out the events happening weekly on The Commune’s event page.
Shop and eat to your heart’s content at THE COMMUNE where there are about 30 stores and restaurants. Get affordable and stylish clothing at JB’s well-known concept store Good2U (LG02), or find any hardware appliances at MR.DIY (LG01). For arcade and game lovers, you can pop by Lido Trading (LG05) and try your luck at their many claw machines.
You can find Crocs jibbitz from as low as RM1 at Tough Group (LG03). The brand also sells blind boxes, cute kids’ backpacks, keychains, and shoes.
Hwa Thai Supermarket (G19) has also opened its newest outlet in the mall. The grocery store is popular among the locals for its affordable and wide selection of produce and household items.
For dining options, there’s Guo Ma Hot Pot (G05), a Muslim-friendly Shabu Shabu and Najat & Najdat Kitchen (LG13) that serves local flavours. Grab an afternoon pick-me-up at Kopi Kenangan (G20A), or for the bubble tea fans, you can get your fix at the first CHAGEE (G20B) drive-thru in Johor.
Spice up your next shopping adventure with a badminton match, challenge your friends at the claw machines, or simply shop for groceries with the fam for the upcoming week. Don’t forget, THE COMMUNE is also a convenient 9-minute drive away from JPO if you’d like to continue with your shopping spree.
