Takumi Kacyo – Premium A5 Wagyu At The Super Chill Keppel Bay

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to Japanese restaurants. In fact, you could probably find at least one Japanese restaurant in every shopping mall. Takumi Kacyo isn’t in a shopping mall though – it’s situated in Keppel Bay Vista, an area known for its exclusivity.Takumi has wooden floors and brick walls, and the setting gives off a dojo-like Japanese feel.

The décor is stylish, offering an ideal combination for both business and social events. Two open kitchens take centre-stage, and over here you’ll get to see the chefs prepare the cooked food and raw food before you.

The Food

Assorted Platter

The Assorted Appetisers ($20) comprised of 3 dishes: Braised Octopus, Yamato Yam Pudding, and Marinated Spotted Shad Fish with Vinegar.The Braised Octopus served here is caught off the shores of Kyushu, Japan. It was not as chewy as I expected and has a meaty texture to it. There was also a sweet aftertaste. The Yamato Yam Pudding does not taste anything like yam at all. The taste of the pudding was mild, but thankfully it was served with “Bekkou-An” sweet soya sauce, so there’s a slight saltiness to it. I will recommend for you to skip this and try the other appetizers instead.The Marinated Spotted Shad Fish with Vinegar was my favourite dish of the three. I enjoyed how the sour taste from the vinegar counterbalanced the fish’s taste. It was also well-marinated and flavourful.

Takumi’s Style Caesar Salad

The salmon sashimi in the Takumi’s Style Caesar Salad ($14) was cooked on the outside but raw on the inside. It was my first time trying something like this and it lent an interesting twist to the conventional salmon. The fresh salad came with a yoghurt dressing drizzled on top.

Premium A5 Wagyu Tenderloin

Their Premium A5 Wagyu Tenderloin ($120) was teppan-cooked and served with Oroshi Ponzu, salt and wasabi. The fire from the teppenyaki preparation glazed the exterior of the beef, making it smell like barbecue meat. The Ponzu sauce had a tinge of sourness to it.

This has to be my favourite dish of the day – the beef was cooked with the right amount of flame, making it incredibly tender and chewy.

Grilled Kinki Fish

The Grilled Kinki Fish ($18) is fried and served with a slice of lemon. It is considered a delicacy in Japan for its succulent and fatty white flesh. The skin was slightly salty and the lemon did not take away the fish scent. I would say that this dish is good but not exceptional.  

Verdict

Takumi is a little out of the way for commuters who take public transport but it will not be a problem if you drive. However, the drive or walk in will be worth the while when you reach your destination.One of the perks for dining at this restaurant’s specialty counter of robata and teppan stations is the beautiful view it offers.

Takumi is nestled in Keppel Bay, overlooking the marina and yacht club. Indulge in an exquisite array of Japanese cuisine while admiring the boats as they sail by the waters on a sunny day.
