7 Photogenic Alleys & Streets In Singapore You’ve Missed With Hypebeast OOTD Potential

Photography spots in Singapore for hypebeast shots

Standing out on Instagram is getting more and more challenging in 2019. I mean, there’s only so many kinds of shots you can take in front of the Jewel Changi water fountain.

If you’re looking for new go-to locations to help you stay ahead of your photography game, these spots all around Singapore will have you striking your best hypebeast-level poses to take your shots to the next level. From wall-murals to pastel-painted houses, check out this list of hidden gems that will give your IG feed an edge.

P.S. Read until the end to find out where you can get your next hypebeast OOTDs.

1. Murals outside Paddy Hills

Black Cotton Sweatshirt ($360) and Black/Brick Belt bag ($400) from Longchamp

Located just outside Paddy Hills cafe, this wall mural features minimalist, quirky doodles of animals, food and people. You can even get inspired for interesting captions from these, and spark life into your photos to give your OOTDs that extra boost.

The mural is mostly monochrome with hints of green and orange hues so it’s best to visit the space during the day to capture these vibrant colours. Even if you’re visiting at night, there’s spotlights beaming down from above the walls to illuminate your shots.

Once you’re peckish after all that posing, head indoors to check out the cafe’s menu of delectable fusion fare. Their dishes, like the Ramen Risotto ($24), are just as photogenic as the cafe’s exteriors.

How to get there: From Haw Par Villa MRT, take bus 143 and alight 3 stops later. Walk along Pasir Panjang Road onto South Buona Vista road and you’ll reach Paddy Hills.

2. Yellow showhouses opposite Aliwal Park Hotel

Black/White Down Jacket ($940), and White Backpack ($930)

You can’t miss this building – it sticks out like a sore thumb along Aliwal Street, right opposite Aliwal Park Hotel. The front of the building features 2 hardware stores but walk along the side of the building, and you’ll find this corridor of plainly painted yellow pillars and walls.

Its bare area allows you even more room for you to get creative with your photos. Make use of the fabric line above one of the pillars to give the illusion of you hanging effortlessly from it.

The design-less backdrop also makes for a perfect canvas to bring out smaller details of your outfit, such as zips, patterns and hemlines. Wearing clothes with monochrome patterns will help your photo pop further.

To add pizzazz without going OTT, add a couple of accessories to your look like sunnies or snapbacks.

How to get there: From Bugis MRT Station, take Bus 32 from Exit A and alight 2 stops later opposite Block 461. Walk about 4 minutes to reach Aliwal Park Hotel.

3. 150 East Coast Road

Black/White Backpack ($475), and Black/White Tennis Shoes ($485)

For retro vibes that’ll complement your street-chic look, check out the pastel-coloured houses along 150 East Coast Road. Once seaside homes, these shophouses’ most notable feature is their front porch, which is elevated from the ground. This was originally designed to protect the houses from rising tides.

To capture the entire facade of the houses, take photos from a lower angle or with a wide lens for extra depth of field.

Do note these houses are private property, so it is important to remain respectful of the owners when taking your shots here.

How to get there: From Kembangan MRT Station, take Bus 32 and alight opposite The Holy Family Church. Walk for another 3 minutes and you’ll reach 150 East Coast Road.

4. Red House at 63 East Coast Road

Tip: Use symmetrical lines to help frame your shot.

The Red House at 63 East Coast Road looks like a giant angpao amongst the other white-washed shophouses alongside it. And though it may appear obiang upon first sight, venture further in and you’ll find a stairwell hidden from plain sight for you to capture some seriously ‘gram-worthy shots at.

Play around with angles here by making use of the staircase railings to help frame your shot. Shoot from a low angle to show the entire flight of stairs, or you can even try shooting in-between the grid lines for a different perspective.

Previously a traditional bakery, the space now holds Heavenly Wang cafe, which serves up local coffee, tea and snacks.

How to get there: From I12 Katong, walk along East Coast Road towards Roxy Square until you see an overhead pedestrian bridge. Cross over, and you’ll arrive at the Red House.

5. 12 Queen Street

When in doubt, graffiti walls are the usual go-to for Instagrammable photos. And while Melbourne has Hosier Lane, we have our very own mini-version at 12 Queen Street.

You can find this work of art right opposite Hotel Royal @ Queens. Apart from the spray-paintings, there are also ledges short enough to sit or stand on.

White Cotton Sweatshirt ($360), and Black Top Handle Bag ($1200)

This place has got to be the most convenient destination on our list as well. It’s right outside Bras Basah MRT station and is surrounded by cafes like Asanoya, which serves up Japanese pastries.

How to get there: From Bras Basah MRT station, walk towards Hotel Royal @ Queens. The graffiti wall is opposite the hotel.

6. Veerasamy Road

Black Pouch ($435), Black Tennis Shoes ($430) and White Key Ring ($150)

Located at the carpark of Block 635 Veerasamy Road, this ‘tic-tac-toe’ wall, is perfect for those who want to frame their shots, literally. The left wall features white lines painted against a pastel green background, while the wall perpendicular to it is a plain red brick wall.

Try jump shots to see if you can perfectly fit into one of the green boxes for an extra cool photo!

Take photos from the side and you’ll even see the intersecting lines appearing as a giant hashtag – perfect for Instagram.

How to get there: From Little India MRT Station, head northeast on Serangoon Road towards Upper Dickson Road and turn right into Veerasamy Road.

7. Alleyway behind Moh Guan Terrace

Black Velvet Down Jacket ($1690), Black/White Belt Bag ($400) and Black/White Tennis Shoes ($485)

Right in front of Tiong Bahru Community Club and between 78 Moh Guan Terrace lies an alleyway that might go overlooked upon first glance. But it shouldn’t be – the whitewashed walls with rustic doors here give the lane an overall grunge vibe.

Black Velvet Down Jacket ($1690)

Back alleys might be associated with trash and dumpsters, but with the right angles, they can also make for some aesthetic photography. While you’re here, make use of the bollards that you can sit on to alleviate your street style.

One of the perks of shooting in back alleys is that they’re usually not crowded too, so you won’t have to stress about annoying photobombers.

How to get there: From Tiong Bahru MRT Station, take Bus 121 from Spooner Road. Alight at Block 126 CP, walk northeast on Kim Tian Road, turn left onto Yong Siak street and continue walking onto Moh Guan Terrace.

Capturing aesthetic hypebeast shots in Singapore

Finding suitable locations to nail hypebeast photos can be challenging, especially when many trendsetters tend to conveniently leave out the location tag on their posts.

But now that you know just where to head to, make these locations your photography playground with the right angles, outfit and poses thrown in.

Shop Longchamp’s new LGP collection

Black/Brick Belt Bag ($400)

The right hypebeast OOTD needs the right outfit to go along with it.

When we think of Longchamp, we think of their classic and timeless style. But the iconic brand is now expanding their designs to include ready-to-wear pieces in their newest street-style collection.

They’ve got 2 new styles to choose from, namely the Le Pliage® LGP, which has the Longchamp initials sprawled over bags and apparel, and the Le Pliage® Cuir LGP, which uses each letter in Longchamp to form a puzzle-like anagram on the same collection.

White backpack ($930)

The instantly recognisable styles include monochromatic monograms on puffer jackets and long-sleeved sweaters too. There’s also a design created specially for buyers within Asia – a powder pink colourway with monochrome hues – so keep a lookout to cop this exclusive!

Black/White Belt Bag ($400) and the Black/White Tennis Shoes ($485)

And while their backpacks and tote bags will be stylish travel additions, opt for the fanny packs if convenience is your priority. These versatile carry-ons can be attached to you diagonally or around your waist, and will keep your hands free for any other activity on-the-go.

Visit Longchamp’s pop-up store from now until 28th May 2019

If you’re eyeing any of these new pieces from Longchamp, you can have a firsthand look at the  Longchamp LGP pop-up event happening at ION Orchard Level 1 Atrium from now until 28th May 2019.

Besides considering your next wardrobe addition, there’s also a photo-op room right at the entrance, which has Longchamp’s signature monograms featured on the walls. The space is also lined with mirrors, which creates an “infinity room” illusion. Take this chance to snap a trippy pic or super cool boomerang!

The staff there will also answer any questions you might have about the new collection. With less than a week left for this exclusive pop-up, you’d best be headed down to do some weekend shopping to spice up your hypebeast wardrobe. Just remember to flaunt your new buys off on your IG feed too.
