Kickstart Stoke – A Project For Gourmet Barbecue Delivery In Singapore

Fire Up the Grill!

Growing up in Singapore, barbecues never really excited me. Sure, satay is great, chicken wings can be awesome, and the company of friends and family is always great. But I’ve always longed for something more. Quality sausages bursting and cracking, a huge slab of beef over a roaring fire with its juices seeping from the sides while I chug on an ice cold can of tiger beer – that would be my ideal barbecue.

Now I can fulfil that dream! Stoke is a new start-up with dreams of becoming a gourmet barbecue food supplier in Singapore. Their products are sourced from personal connections of owners Chris and Ruth who maintain close relationships to farmers and suppliers in Europe. They are currently crowdfunding their start up via Kickstarter and invited us to taste some of their products.

What they offer

Spanish Iberico Pork

This delicious slab of meat was raised free range and organically. They also feed mainly on acorns which translates to its sweet and subtle flavour. The gorgeous marbling on the meat also contributes to it’s astonishing flavour and those oh so delicious juices that flow when you bite into it.

Grain Fed Australian Beef

Free from chemicals and hormones, this organically raised beef is rich with marbling and flavour.

Bultarra Organic Lamb

These lamb of Australian origin feed on saltbush grown in the dried up river banks of the Murray River. It’s surprising that such an arid area could be home to such delicious lamb. The lamb we had didn’t have the gamey flavour associated to it. Instead, it was savoury with a tinge of sweet.

Canned Seafood

They also supply Bacalao (salted cod), Sea Urchin and mussels all from Spain. These are perfect as an appetizer and go great with some crackers.

Stoke Could Use Your Help!

I was wary about attending the barbecue on a Saturday morning, but I’m really glad I did. The meats taste great, and the lamb tasted surprisingly good. Some of their items are hard to find, namely the Iberico pork which is usually reserved for restaurants.

Stoke is still in the process of setting up, but you can make it happen by pitching in at their Kickstarter. Packages range from meat combinations to fully catered dishes so if you’re cravin’ some grillin’, stop by their page and give them some support.
