Every Disney fan will know the iconic sky lantern scene at the end of Tangled: Rapunzel and Flynn on a boat with lanterns drifting into the sky? It doesn’t get more enchanting than that. Hopeless romantics, get your own “Disney moment” at the Sky Lantern Festival, happening at Sentosa on 21st February 2024.
Save the date as the event is taking place at Palawan Green – located near Sentosa’s Beach Station – for 1 day only. It’s right after Valentine’s Day we might add; if your “Flynn Rider” is alright with a belated celebration.

The event starts at 3pm, with activities like live music, guest DJ, and instructional demos on how to use the sky lanterns. Feel free to bring your own picnic mats, foldable chairs or blankets. The highlight of the event will begin at 7.30pm, with all attendees releasing their glowing lanterns as the sun sets. It’ll be like the paper lantern experience in Jiufen, Taiwan without having to fly all the way there.

The environment how? Rest assured, the lanterns aren’t going to end up in the ocean or trapped between HDB laundry poles. All lanterns will be anchored to the ground with bamboo strings – after floating in the air for 5-10 minutes the lanterns can be pulled back to the ground. Besides, each lantern is biodegradable and made with oiled rice paper.
There’ll be strictly no free release of lanterns, and safety marshals will be on standby with extinguishers for emergencies.
You don’t need to be a certified INFP like myself to be an incessant dreamer. Let your fairytale moment take off, literally, at the Sky Lantern Festival happening this February. Tickets are priced at $50/pax or $25/student. While it’s a little steep, each ticket already comes with 2 paper lanterns and a marker. Children under 7 can also enter for free.
