Each year, many locals and foreign visitors (foreign talents no less) alike, make a beeline for a free event…yes, free! By that, I mean the military services open house…Each of the Land, Sea and Air force takes turn to host an Open House to touch base with visitors, showcase the latest technologies and perhaps generate career interest in the next generation.
Equally interesting is the logistical and organizational prowess of the military power house is put to test and displayed for all too see and enjoy…
RSN pride – the stealth frigate…self-designed & produced…
Commencement of the Dynamic display…with Chinook about to offload naval frogmen…
Dynamic display, naval seals mounting “distressed vessel”…
USS Freedom Littoral Warship…
This year was the navy’s turn. The event was opened to the public on the 18-19 May 2013. An awesome day for military buffs to experience what’s like to be a naval sailor (or at least some part of it). Many will love the fun rides on amphibians, the dynamic display, going up close with the local missile corvettes and foreign warships (visiting vessels from India, Indonesia, Australia and USA were also here).
Kids especially will love the free pop corns and candy floss in the Family & Fun Zone…it’s so much fun to do over a rather short day as the event opens only from 830am to 4pm (with long waiting time for commuting to and departing from the Changi Navy Base already taking up 2.5-3.5 hours)…
Navy Seals – making waves…
Kids trying out naval firemen gears..
Playing surgeon… “disinfecting” a wound…
Up close with USS Freedom lady naval sailor…
Personnel preparing SAR21 for “firing”…
Getting to know what’s Morse Code and the Morse Code equipment…
“Duck” joyride for the lucky few through lucky draw…
Disembarking from vessel visits..
How about Submarine Sandwich ??
National symbol of India….seen at Visiting foreign vessels section.
Sort of a marine “shredding” machine…
The only grouse this year was the extreme long snaking queue at Expo Hall 3, to bus shuttle to Changi Naval Base (It was the Mother of all Queues ! at least 2-3 hours !)
and the 35’C-36’C melted part of the fun…certainly a test of patience and endurance…. but once in 3 years…it’s always a “pilgrimage” of sort. Do watch out next for …the Air Force Open House in 2014…it’s going to be fun as well…
