I’d always thought spas were places you went to for massages and pamper treatments. Somehow along the way people started to explore ways in which spas could offer more than that. Medical spas seemed to be the answer for consumers looking to combine relaxation and non-invasive cosmetic beauty treatments, all in an indulgent spa setting.
I recent went to a medispa to experience how health and beauty treatments can be performed under one roof. While there may be a number of medispas to head to, PhysioAesthetics doesn’t just do the standard fill-in-the-form procedure when you first show up at the clinic. They want to really know you, which is why it felt like I was writing a personality test when I was there.
Beyond the usual inquiry into your personal particulars, the consultation probes into your dietary and lifestyle habits – how much and what I eat, if and how often I exercise, and my primary aesthetic concerns. All of these ensure a customer gets a customised and tailor-made treatment session at PhysioAesthetics.
I’m keeping those numbers to myself but I can tell you this – Adrienne, the clinic manager was quite impressed with my scores!
PhysioAesthetic No Sweat Inch Loss – $188/55 mins (TRIAL Special)
I must admit I’ve always felt it ludicrous to pay money to shed kilos, because eating right and exercising can be achieved at a fairly economical cost. But making your own non-MSG laden lunchbox and going to the gym 3 times a week aren’t all that realistic for many of us.
Sure you can do extra squats while you binge on bad TV at home, opt for the stairs instead of taking the lift at work, and have one less cupcake when you’re out for high tea, but those decisions are often quite painful to make.
What isn’t painful though, is PhysioAesthetic’s No Sweat Inch Loss Treatment. Yes ‘inch’ loss! This means you see and feel actual results with just one session. What it does is mimic an intense gym work or your usual exercise routine without the ache. I don’t know about you, but I sometimes crave the ache, because that’s the indication that I’m no longer such a lazy bum. But the anticipation of that ache is also an impediment. I tend to put off exercising because it’s just too exhausting.
Here’s how the magic went down:
Best. Workout. Ever. My therapists Mandy and Macy – perhaps my body needed more attention, or maybe they’re just that nice to offer 2 therapists, which would also ensure less time spent preparing equipment – told me my body session would last 45 minutes, but would be equivalent to 2 hours of exercising. This is the ultimate cheat trick!
Granted, it wasn’t like I nodded into a deep slumber and woke up looking like a VS model. It wasn’t that effortless. The dials you see on the machine determine the level of intensity of the vibrations you feel coming from the cords. I was basically convulsing for 45 minutes. Macy would first set it at level 1 or 2 – it goes up to 15 – and let my body get used to the intensity and vibration. She checked back on me thrice during the 45 minutes session, each time asking if I was okay with her increasing the power.
When that was over I was asked if I perspired at all, since apparently some people do and that is completely normal, but I didn’t feel a single bead of sweat. I did feel a tiny bit of ache in my thighs from the constant pressure though, and that gave me a psychological boost, like I really went to the gym.
Pain-free, sweat-free exercise all while being pampered by 2 therapists? Yes please!
While that was going on, Mandy gave me a PhysioAesthetics signature deep cleanse facial so that I could complete both the body and face treatment within two hours. Maximising treatment time for its customers is something the clinic prides itself on.
The facial was to cleanse and prep my face for the PhysioAesthetics EyeLift program Adrienne picked out for me. It included deep pore cleansing and manual extraction of blackheads and a couple of zits I had. When I was done with both the facial and body treatment, I headed over to a separate treatment room, feeling much more confident about my body.
In this second room was the iEllios technology. Hardly the snazziest computer you find these days, this little machine actually packs a whole load of functions! Mandy took me through the program selection process. Because the biggest problem I had was with my under-eye circles, I went for the PhysioAesthetics EyeLift program designed to increase production of collagen and elastin, improving blood circulation and cell regeneration to combat the dark eye circles.
It’s been a week since my visit to PhysioAesthetics and I must say Macy wasn’t just bragging when she told me clients have raved about the long-lasting effects of the Two-Zone body treatment.
In the past week the only form of exercise I’d done was chow down on delicious Sasak cuisine in Lombok, Indonesia – sorry, Adrienne – but I don’t feel like I’ve packed on the pounds. It was indeed the perfect treatment I needed before a trip overseas, because adding ‘gym’ to my travel itinerary isn’t just inconvenient, it’s silly.
For my eyes though, I remain slightly less optimistic. The IEllios technology does sound extremely intelligent, but I doubt just one session of the PhysioAesthetics EyeLift program can undo years of late nights and intense computer usage.
Trust me, once you get there, you’re going to be putty in their skilled hands.
