There’ll Be An Entire Theme Park Dedicated To Peppa Pig In Shanghai For A Squealing Good Time

Peppa Pig Outdoor Theme Park in Shanghai

As far as new theme park openings are concerned, China is certainly pulling no punches when it comes to bolstering its roster of family-friendly destinations. Their recent openings include a swanky new Zootopia-themed area in Shanghai Disney Resort, and murmurs of upcoming projects speak of a future LEGOLAND and a Sanrio-themed resort.

Add the Peppa Pig Outdoor Theme Park to that expanding list of amusement parks in China. This amusement park featuring the sassy British piglet and her family will also be coming to Shanghai in the not-so-distant future; here’s all we know about this oink-tastic getaway.

What to know about the Peppa Pig Outdoor Theme Park?

The Peppa Pig Outdoor Theme Park is a theme park that’s currently under construction on Changxing Island, which is located in the Chongming district of Shanghai. Should everything go to plan, it’s projected to open in 2027, so we don’t have to wait long before we’re able to say hi to Peppa and her household of piggies.

Also, getting there shouldn’t pose too much of a problem, as there are a couple of airlines with direct flights from Singapore to Shanghai, such as China Eastern and Singapore Airlines. Return flights start from $287, and flight times float around 5 and a half hours; afterwards, the drive to Changxing Island from the Shanghai Pudong International Airport is around 40 minutes.

Back to the theme park itself, there’s no word on what kind of rides or amenities it’ll feature, but since it’s entirely dedicated to the Peppa Pig franchise, you can bet that there’ll be no shortage of pig-inspired attractions to hit up. What we do know is that Shanghai’s Peppa Pig Outdoor Theme Park will span an area of 48 acres, which is just a smidgen smaller than Universal Studios Singapore

If you ask us, we’re expecting the theme park to borrow some inspo from the existing Peppa Pig World at Paultons Park in the UK, and the recently opened Peppa Pig theme park in Dallas-Fort Worth in the US. This means no adrenaline-pumping, gravity-defying rollercoasters, but instead a more mellow amusement park experience that even the littlest of tots can enjoy.

Other than kid-friendly rides, the theme park will also feature several themed areas; think Grandpa Pig’s garden and George Pig’s dinosaur-inhabited play space. There’s also going to be an immersive show featuring the cast of the show to catch, along with a themed hotel to relax in that’s designed to accommodate 3-generation families, so everyone can get in on the fun.

Keep an eye out for the Peppa Pig Outdoor Theme Park in Shanghai

For some reason, the Chinese crowd is absolutely obsessed with Peppa. In fact, it’s one of the most-watched international kids’ titles in China, so it’s not surprising that they’re capitalising on the country’s love for the series.

But, we’ve still got 2 years before the Peppa Pig Outdoor Theme Park officially opens in Shanghai, which means you’ve got plenty of time to catch up on the misadventures of Peppa and friends with your little one.

In the meantime, here are some other things to do in China:
