Get your stomachs ready

Source

We all have those days – the ones where we feel ravenous and ready to eat a horse. We want to eat everything in sight, and our tummies are making a strange mix of a wail and a strangled cry.

Unfortunately, if you’re like me, a day like this comes faster than you can tell your body “Oi get yo act together!”. So I’ve made a list of 10 places we can visit just for days like that! You can thank me later.

1. Menya Musashi

Menya Musashi is no stranger to the ramen scene, originating from Japan and garnering hordes of loyal fans worldwide. It serves ramen with a rich creamy soup base, and has an option to upsize your dipping Cha Shu Tsukemen ($14.90) noodles by up to 5 times. That leaves you with a massive 600g bowl of noodles, sumo-worthy indeed!

Teriyaki Grilled Chicken ($8)

Peachy’s is a halal establishment serving Western food which come in large portions at extremely affordable prices. With everything on the menu priced at $10 and under, you’ll feast like royalty here without burning a hole in your pocket.

Note that due to its limited seating capacity, a small queue may form. However, not to worry as the food is served quickly and makes for a high table turnover rate. For its taste, price, and quantity, a short wait is well worth it!

3. Udon GOEN

Situated within Wisma Atria’s Food Republic, Udon GOEN sells a dish called the Japanese Ultimate Original Curry Rice ($19.80). It is essentially a platter of curry-bathed rice topped with crispy pork tonkatsu, chicken katsu, fried chicken, fried prawns, croquette, and a half-boiled egg.

It sounds impossible for one person to finish the whole thing himself, and you’re probably right. The dish is recommended for a group of 2-3 people, but you’re welcome to take up the challenge yourself! For all you big-but-not-THAT-big eaters, the stall also has other single-serve options which likewise come in sizable portions.

When I was younger, the thought of eating raw fish gave me the shivers – oh, what a poor silly child I was. Now, I absolutely love it! So imagine my glee when I discovered that there’s a restaurant nestled within Emporium Shokuhin that sells a gargantuan bowl of Japanese rice topped with fresh raw fish. Senmi Sushi’s Giant Chirashi Don ($34) is definitely large enough to feed 2 people, or 1 very hungry sumo.

6. Ri Ri Hong Mala Xiang Guo

Most people associate ma la with the soup or hotpot, but this dry variation will win your heart over. That is, if you like the numbing sensation that comes with a fiery bowl of spicy stir fry. You can choose from a variety of ingredients, before the chef fries it all up with a special blend of spices. A note of caution though: this dish is not for the faint-hearted. The result is a huge bowl of chilli-laden goodness that packs a punch!

Meats and seafood are priced at $2-3, depending on your selection, while each type of vegetable costs $1. For less than $10, you can get a huge bowl like the one above!
