First of all, I would like to emphasize there will be no Princess Cut offered at this brunch. And yes you should be a little bit agonized at this piece of news. But fret not! What I’m about to introduce to you will make cheer you back up pronto.
TSL’s never done a complete brunch guide. But if there were one, the Manhattan Brunch – brunch with a punch – would definitely be in there. Here’s why. From the welcome drinks to the dessert spread, and every other decadent, delicious food offering in between, this is the ultimate posh American brunch.
This little rhyming exercise they got going on is so aptly coined because it’s not milkshakes and fruit juices around here. It’s an adults-only brunch, and Manhattan does what it always does best – presenting cocktails as crowning glory.
You can’t possibly get any more pampered here. From the moment you enter the bar, your entire brunch experience will be so thoughtfully crafted the only thing left for you to do is to ready yourself for the extravagant feast laid out.
This is basically a buffet brunch with alcohol but the servers will start your brunch off with a welcome drink from the flowing bowl – that means it’s free flow. Yes, actually everything in here is free flow. The brunch consists of mains you can order from the menu that are served to you, along with a large buffet spread you can go crazy at.
The Fords Gin with fresh lemons was the perfect drink to start with. Refreshing and light, I was craving another glass right away. But when I saw that the menu had six different types of cocktails available I knew I had to go slow and steady. You can also choose to top up S45 if you’re extra extra fancy want to include champagne – Billecart-Salmon Brut Reserve – in your brunch.
Right after that they will serve up the Silver Dollar Pancake (above) and Bacon and Egg. If you need your pancakes fluffy and big then I’m sorry but you have to settle for three itty bitty ones with an equally tiny slice of apple on top. I really needed more pancakes but I realized this was all a clever setup. It doesn’t make any gluttony sense to gorge on pancakes when there’s so much food waiting for you.
When you’re done with these you can go forth and scour for food! They’ve set up several food stations and ‘stations’ is definitely the right word because wouldn’t you look at this? The only thing better than the taste of fresh seafood is how fresh seafood is presented.
Top quality American oysters are flown in every week from Boston and depending its availability, you get to enjoy a couple of different types of oysters at Manhattan. Grab some on your plate along with a lemon wedge and slather on some hot sauce… doesn’t matter if you got the sweet or briny ones. The fresh oysters and hot sauce are the perfect combination and the best way to embark on an intense seafood affair.
Then go on and spoil your belly crazy with these babies.
Do they really have to put on such a bountiful display?! Shame of you Manhattan, ruiner of all eat-clean diets. The bagels station comes equipped with a myriad of cream cheese smears to complete and cement this cheat day you’re going to have.
If you’ve read my previous post on Manhattan – and you should – you would know that Manhattan Bar boasts the world’s first in-house rickhouse filled with barrels of spirits and chuck loads of quirky and also very expensive ingredients that both the kitchen and bar utilize.
For this posh brunch they no longer just proudly parade their Ingredients Room. Instead they set up cheese shop in it. Between the brunch spread and the Ingredients Room, you’re basically caught in the whirl of gourmet selections, I don’t know how you’re ever going to make it out when brunch ends.
When you’re almost done stuffing your face the servers will bring out your Hot Plates. These include BBQ Pulled Pork Slider, The NY Strip, and the Smoked Foie Gras of which I had two servings. What? Free flow, remember?
On the menu, under Desserts there was only this one-liner description: The finest selection of American favorites!
And finest it was. They should also add a disclaimer that says: Our pastry chef might have gone a little too crazy with the amount of desserts you see before you.
My favorite was the Raspberry Coconut Cream but not just because it’s so pretty. Or maybe it was.
The chef’s favorite is the sweet chewy cookies, so you know that one is bound to be pretty tasty.
How can I possibly forget about the cocktails? In between your food you should definitely head over to the Bloody Mary Cart right outside the rickhouse because Ricky will be here mixing up a storm.
Then step into the rickhouse and dress your Bloody Mary up with ridiculously fiery hot sauce and throw in some of the oddest things you could possibly imagine – bak kwa and leek, just to name a couple – into your cocktail.
Here’s us toasting the La Bonne Vie and Bartender’s Breakfast to an indulgent brunch. Oh, also try Ward Eight – a much, much less potent mix than Eighth Ward that’s available in the normal service.
Brunch is only available on Sundays for now, but if you and your posse make it down and turn it into the most chichi place to be seen at on Sunday, they might just make this into a proper weekend affair!
