The sight of one of these beautiful retro vehicles cruising down our streets promises to turn a few heads and draw some compliments along the way. The Kombi, as it is known, is a vintage Volkswagen model that is extremely rare in Singapore.
Kombi Rocks Diner in Yio Chu Kang is a casual Thai-Chinese restaurant that serves up a delicious fusion of these 2 cuisines. First opened way back in 1971 as Koon Kee Restaurant, it has been passed down 3 generations to Chef Hai – who, with his passion for vintage collectibles – revamped it into this retro-looking one of a kind diner!
For Valentine’s Day, Kombi Rocks Diner is opening the doors of their immaculately maintained Kombis for couples to enjoy a romantic meal in the vehicle. The 4-course meal contains an appetizer, main course, dessert and a bottle of wine or champagne for an evening that will live long in the memory.
The interior of the Kombi was spacious, with more than enough space for 4 to dine in comfort. The once in a lifetime experience of dining in a Kombi was magical, with great food, service, bubbly, privacy and even a live acoustic band. Furthermore, we got a chauffeur-driven joyride by Chef Hai himself to cap off a romantic evening.
Although this experience comes at a hefty price of $548, it is worth the experience. The beautiful backdrop of Chef Hai’s massive collection of vintage clocks, guitars and cars, together with the privacy of dining in the rare Kombi (there are only 16 in Singapore), promises a night you and your date will remember.
