You’ve probably heard the news that Genting Theme Park is now open and Japan’s Studio Ghibli Theme Park is well on its way. Those aren’t the only new and thrilling additions you can add to your travel bucket list. Sanrio fans rejoice, because the new Sanya Hello Kitty Theme Park Resort is opening in China in 2024.

For the roller coaster fans among us, theme parks are a must for every travel itinerary. Bookmark Sanya, China for your getaways in the coming years – it’ll soon be home to the world’s very first Hello Kitty Theme Park Resort, run by Hyatt Hotels & Resorts.
Unlike Tokyo’s Sanrio Puroland, this new attraction will have both a theme park and an accompanying resort. Better yet, Sanya is just a 4-hour flight from Singapore, making this one of the closest major theme parks to us.

The theme park will span over 52 acres of space – roughly the same size as Universal Studios Singapore – and artists’ impressions have shown that there’ll be plenty to anticipate.

Visitors can expect a Ferris wheel, roller coaster, high element rope course and water-based rides, to name a few. You’ll also find the whole attraction decked in all things Sanrio. This includes a giant Hello Kitty Sphynx, Melody statues and Badtz-Maru Tiki huts.

One day may not be enough to fully immerse yourself in the world of Hello Kitty. The good news is, you can stay at the accompanying luxury resort which has more than 221 rooms, three restaurants and a themed ballroom. Other facilities to expect include a spa, fitness centre and bar.

Given both the long queues for McDonald’s Hello Kitty Happy Meal toys back in the day, and the recently-popular Hello Kitty Staycation at Fairmont, it’s safe to say that Singaporeans have a soft spot for the Sanrio character. If you’re itching to go somewhere new in the coming years, keep an eye out for Sanya Hello Kitty Theme Park Resort.
Location: Haitang Bay, Sanya, China
