12 Ways to Survive the Great Singapore Sale – #1 is so mean but so essential!

12 Ways to Survive the Great Singapore Sale

Its that time of the year again – the Great Singapore Sale!

Like every other year, the stores are going to be pretty darn crowded. But before you start screaming and spending all the money you’ve earned over the last 3 months, check out our foolproof GSS survival guide to make sure you make the most of the years biggest shopping event.

1. Get a boyfriend slave

I’ve been told that boys are good for more than just kissing, time to put that to the test.

(He’s whipped. Get it?)

2. DO NOT lose weight

I know what you’re thinking: “If I lose weight then the clothes will fit better!” Yeah, true. But lets be honest, once your “diet” ends or once there’s cake, you’re going to put it all back on. And then you might have to cut yourself out of your spanking new skinny jeans.

3. Lose that manicure

If you’re one of those girls who loves to rock the pontianak nails as I like to call them, its time to lose them. Expect to do a lot of unglamorous grabbing so being super careful due to your immaculate nails shouldn’t be on the agenda.

You before the sale:

You after the sale:

4. Wear clothes that are easy to get out off

I cannot stress this enough. Just like how you don’t want to be fussing over your nails, you really don’t want to have to worry about your clothes getting in the way. I’d recommend a skirt or dress for the girls so you can whip clothes on and off very quickly in the changing rooms or sneakily try on clothes under your skirt in a secluded corner of the shop.

5. Bring a friend who doesn’t have the same taste as you

If you’re one of those “forever alone” people, first things first, welcome to the club. Next thing, grab your best girlfriend and go shopping!

Hold up though. If she has the same taste in clothes as you then do not grab her. Leave her behind. Do not tell her about the sales. No mercy.

6. Have a zen attitude

There’s going to be a whole lot of people there. Honestly, its going to be a mad house. You have to make sure you don’t lose your mind. No matter how many times people grab those gorgeous boots you want to buy, fight the urge to punch them in the eyeball. Plenty of other things to buy. Breathe.

DO NOT:

DO:

7. Bring a fan

I know most shopping spots are air-conditioned but with Singapore’s weather, even shuffling between shopping malls might have you breaking a sweat. A fan is always a good idea, especially in long sweating queues and if your boyfriend slave is there to operate it for you.

8. Plan ahead

Going to the GSS is a lot like going to war. Everybody wants to get the best deals and nothing is going to stand in their way, just like nothing should stand in yours. You need a battle plan.

Check out the official GSS website to make sure you know where the best sales are and so you’ll know what to expect.

9. Budget, budget, budget

The last thing you want to do is spend all your money in one place. The best thing to do is to set aside a certain sum of money to spend in each shop. Don’t allow yourself to go over the limit. No matter what.

10. Know where you can get the best deals

Although the discounts during GSS are already massive, sometimes you can get even better discounts! And who doesn’t love more discounts.

For example when you shop with your MasterCard which is the Official Card of the GSS, you get an additional 10% off storewide at Forever 21 and 10% off regular priced items and additional 5% off sale items at rosebullet.

There are plenty more of these kinds of deals so make sure you know where you can go to get the most bang out of your buck.

11. Take breaks and stay hydrated

Any shopping enthusiast knows that breaks are key to making sure that you have a great experience. While shopping for hours may seem like a good idea, its important for you to take a food break and drink plenty of water.

Grab a seat and rest your feet because if you don’t you’ll find yourself getting tired and grumpy you won’t be in a positive mood during your shopping and that may affect your judgement.

You’ll be on your feet for a really long time so water is super important.

I’d recommend bringing a 500ml bottle along so you’ll have water with you but it won’t be too heavy so that your bag gets weighed down.

12. Make the most of your spending

One such way you can do so is to take part in the MasterCard Priceless Surprises Machine experience, where literally everyone is a winner. All you have to do is make sure you charge to your MasterCard card during GSS and have at least 3 charge slips with a minimum spend of $20 each.

Then head on over to the MasterCard Priceless Surprises Machine, which will be at various locations in Singapore throughout June, present the charge slips and you will win one of 7000 prizes up for grabs! That’s right, everyone is a winner.

These prizes range from MasterCard prepaid cards worth up to $1000, shopping and dining vouchers and hotel stays. There’s also the grand prize of an all-expenses paid trip to catch Justin Timberlake live in Sydney! You just need to sing, dance or pose at the Machine to prove that you’re Justin’s biggest fan!

I got to experience the #PricelessSurprises for myself when I was at Raffles City recently. There were so many interesting pop-up surprises such as a Grease flash mob, magic show and even a pop-up date for one lucky participant with a very dashing man. Super jealous!

The Priceless Surprises Machine will travel to different malls each weekend so be sure to know the various locations. It will be at Resorts World Sentosa from 14-15 June, MasterCard Theatres from 21-22 June and Raffles City from 28-29 June. The Machine opens from 2-4pm on all weekends.

For more information, you can visit MasterCard’s special GSS Website www.mastercard.com/gss or get the latest updates on locations from www.facebook.com/MasterCardSG or www.twitter.com/MasterCardSG.

You’re all set

There you have it. Follow these simple steps and you’ll be able to have the absolute best experience at this year’s GSS. I know I’m gonna be hitting up the shops nearly every single day and I think you should too. Happy shopping!

Final Tip – Dealing with the Aftermath

So the sale will eventually finish and you’ll end up with a whole lot of wonderful new things that make you super happy. Your bank balance though, is not. Its sad. So sad. Don’t look at it. Be prepared to possibly have to eat grass for a bit.
