Glowbeat at *SCAPE – Glowing Ball Pit, Food Trucks & Carnival Games On 9-11 February

Glowbeat X *SCAPE 2018

Carnivals are all the rage these days, and there have been many springing up in Singapore as of late. But if you’re going to visit just one of such pop-ups this month, let it be Glowbeat X *SCAPE.

It’s gonna be an exciting galore of good eats, games, and live music from 9-11 February, 11AM-11PM, so free up your calendar this weekend and visit with your buddies – or suffer from a harrowing bout of FOMO when you see everyone else posting about it on social media. We visited the event within hours of it opening, and here are the highlights you can expect there:

– FUN PHOTO SPOTS –

These days, it’s “pics or it didn’t happen” – and the folks behind Glowbeat sure know how important photo-worthiness is to the hip millennial crowd. Which is why they’ve got a bunch of aesthetically appealing installations for you to go crazy with – including a glowing ball pit!

Every one of us is just a big kid at heart, so go on and dive right in – no need to be paiseh! With a dazzling disco ball, thumping music, and lights flashing in changing hues, this might as well be a mini club.

You don’t have to be ballin’ to get in – just RSVP for the event on Facebook and be one of the first 200 per day to turn up at the official event booth, and you’ll get FREE ball pit entry and 1 free gameplay at the carnival booths.

Or, simply purchase $30 worth of carnival tokens in a single receipt, and you’ll get to enjoy FREE entry to the ball pit for 2. That’s not a tall order, judging from how there’ll be so many food and game stalls you’d want to spend at.

But while you’re preoccupied with the party inside, don’t neglect the exterior of the ball pit room – the outer walls with green, orange, and pink neon stripes are hella photogenic too.

If you’d rather not go balls deep, relive your Primary School days with giant country flag erasers on the large steps in the vicinity – done up by The Propz Company!

There will also be a photo booth by Little Mighty Media exclusively on 10 Feb, 5PM-10PM with props. It’s not your usual photobooth either – you’ll get FREE printouts of any pictures you take there, so long as you post them on Instagram with the official #glowbeatxscape hashtag.

– FOOD –

No one can resist fries. Especially if they’re Katoshka’s double-fried russet fries ($5.90) with a generous heaping of sauce. These goodies in a cup are Halal, so anyone can enjoy them! We love how they were prepared on the spot and served crispy and warm.

As we’re cheese-crazy people, we headed straight for the Bac & Cheeze hotdog ($7.90) from Be Frank. The blanket of cheese was satisfyingly gooey and not overpowering, and the bacon bits added good flavour. Other flavours include Cheezy Mushroom, Spicy Coney, and Truffle Egg Mayo, all at the same price.

For beverages, the fruity gradient drinks ($5-$6) from The Juicy Way and Drip Bags ($5) from Swag Grill Bar were as aesthetically pleasing as they were thirst-quenching. Thumbs up for tip-top presentation.

Other good nosh to look forward to include beef cubes, cute character macarons, and Thai milk tea.

Indulge in some Cheesy Rosti ($5.90 for 1, $10 for 2) by The 6ixs, with various toppings like smoked duck and bacon.

For some added buzz, pop by the Glow Bar for some good ol’ booze. The container bar is pastel pink with cute retro-style neon lights, so it’s impossible to miss!

Here are the Happy Hour deals you don’t wanna miss from 4PM-6PM and 10PM-11PM each day:

  • Heineken beer and Strongbow cider for $7/can (U.P. $8)
  • Buy 2 buckets of Heineken ($18/bucket of 3 can) and get 1 can free

– SHOPPING –

Retail booths touting unique items will be set up, so hop on over for some shopping therapy – or to get a last-minute Valentine’s day gift for bae.

If your face is gonna be on fleek, then your tools better look the part. Beauty junkies will be squealing in excitement over the mermaid- and unicorn-inspired makeup brushes by Noir Hom and NicoleClaire & Co.. We’re head over heels with how magical they look and how soft the bristles are.

Hopeless romantics will love the beautiful everlasting bouquets (from $15) by Toki.

Here’s some ink your mum won’t scold you for getting – intricate temporary tattoos by Henn.Drawn, Singapore’s first jagua tattoo artist. Visit the carnival on either 10 or 11 Feb if you wish to get inked, because her pop-up booth will be open from 11AM-4PM on both days. Psst…her schedule before CNY is packed, but this is one place where you can walk-in and get your tatts done just in time for the festive period.

Beauty buffs will also delight in FREE manicures and brow-shaping at the Vaniday x Etude House booth on 11 Feb, 5PM-10PM.

– GAMES –

Of course, what’s a carnival without games? Bust out your skills at the claw machines, where there will be licensed plush toys up for grabs – literally.

Or try your hand at old-school carnival games like Ring Toss, Throw Can, and Milk Churn to win even more prizes.

Prices for carnival tokens are as follows:

  • 1 for $2
  • 15 for $25 (less than $1.70 per token)

Hypebeasts looking to add to their collection can try their luck at the Hypedrop machine, where you’ll stand a chance to win yourself some branded sneakers!

– LIVE PERFORMANCES –

Everyone already knows of *SCAPE as a youth talent hub, especially popular among dancers for its open rehearsal spaces. So it’s only natural that there’s going to be an extensive lineup of performances by our local talents to entertain you on all 3 days of the event.

Some of the acts you can anticipate include: THELIONCITYBOY X Jasmine Sokko on 10 Feb, a dance collab between the Lion City Lockers and TSL’s very own Fauzi & Xenia on 10 Feb, and a special Rising Talents showcase featuring 214, Stephycube, The Bloomery, and Killbedbythecircus on 11 Feb.

Gamer geeks will be interested to know that there will also be a competitive eSports exhibition match on 11 Feb from 1PM-4PM, where musicians, dancers, and some of us from TSL will be battling it out in a game of Overwatch with gamers from Singapore’s own competitive eSports team, Chaos Theory SG.
