The Dare to Go Bare Challenge isn’t a full on nude challenge. No. It’s a much more worthy cause then that. It’s a challenge where you literally step out of your comfort zone.
Here, we dare you to go bare… feet.
If you’ve always wanted to do something for a worthy cause but wasn’t sure what, now’s the perfect opportunity. You’ll have fun at the same time too, kicking off those shoes and walking barefoot among thousands for a worthy cause.
Here’a video of me going barefoot around Singapore!
Habitat for Humanity Singapore’s annual walkathon Bare Your Sole returns for its seventh year. Its goal is to raise awareness for the plight of a large number of people living in poverty, without the ability to afford basic amenities that we use on a daily basis.
The less fortunate. The needy. The elderly.
Simple things like shelter and footwear that we take for granted are hard to come by for them. But this year, we can do something to change that.
Funds raised from the 2km and 4km barefoot charity walkathon support Habitat for Humanity Singapore’s Project HomeWorks program, a local initiative aimed at improving the living conditions of the elderly, the sick and the physically-challenged living in one-room flats in Singapore.
To support Bare Your Sole 2015, I went barefoot to 10 places around the island, immortalising my journey in pictures below. We challenge you to go barefoot in uncomfortable or unexpected places and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #daretogobare2015!
Go big or go home – I braved countless awkward stares for this shot. It’s a thrilling feeling to take that unexpected leap amongst the crowd. After I saw the set of pictures we came back with, I knew it was worth it.
Take your shot against the picturesque Central Business District, a charming sight located in central Singapore. Did you know that the bridge linking Merlion Park and the Waterfront Promenade in front of the Esplanade was opened a month earlier to allow Singaporeans to bid their farewells to the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew?
This bridge holds special significance as it was a project initiated by the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew himself.
A popular youth hangout spot, the underpass to the Esplanade Theatres by the Bay has become a haven for aspiring breakdancers and artistes from all walks of life, creating a little space for young breakdancers to flaunt their stuff.
Visit this underpass and you might just learn a trick or two from the talented youths here!
Ion Orchard is a shopping paradise tourists around the world flock to. You won’t miss these brightly-coloured statues on the steps of ION Orchard which were created by Swiss sculptor Kurt Laurenz Metzler for a loud theatrical effect. Get creative with your pictures!
Ion Orchard is also a popular spot for events, such as the recent Fashion Steps Out show held from 5-18 April right in front of the mall.
Photography enthusiasts are often thrilled to see streaks of light pouring in from the gaps between these bridges. The underpass bridge is a good spot to relax after a run. Running helps you destress, fight cancer, and strengthen your bones!
With bright graffiti splashed across the walls, *Scape is a popular hangout spot for youth in Singapore. This space is specially dedicated to youth talent and development in Singapore. Stop by *Scape to see works from our talented youth or bask in the hustle and bustle of a night flea market.
Not much to say here except that it took $100 million and 10 years to clean it up. Today, this picturesque view is a tourist attraction and a perfect running spot. Get a shot here during the evening and head for a mouthwatering dinner at Makansutra Gluttons Bay.
If time permits, stay a little longer and treat yourself to an impressive light show at 8pm and 9.30pm daily.
Built at a cost of $600 million, the Esplanade was a bold announcement of Singapore’s ambitions to be taken seriously as an Arts hub to the world. Since its opening, it has hosted world famous big name performances, such as the Queen musical We Will Rock You and Avenue Q. Hooray for the local arts scene!
Its unique design has gotten global attention from but we all still think that it looks like a durian.
We picked the pavement outside Wisma Atria as many Singaporeans enjoy sitting around the area during the weekends to chill and watch buskers flaunt their stuff. From Chinese gymnastics performers to enthusiastic jugglers to husky-voiced musicians, we have them all.
Take a picture with them – they wouldn’t mind posing for a unique barefoot shot with you!
The $5 billion high-density, mixed-use integrated resort stands in its full glory, towering over the Singapore River. The Marina Bay Sands is a sight to behold, attracting many tourists to the large array of food and entertainment offerings within the 3 majestic interlinked buildings.
One main draw for us would be the picturesque infinity pool that glides over its sides like a dream. It makes me proud to be Singaporean, seeing it being reblogged countless times on Tumblr.
And now that you’ve bared your sole around Singapore, it’s time to bare your sole with thousands others, participating in the walkathon that raises money for the less fortunate in Singapore.
Habitat For Humanity Singapore’s Bare Your Sole barefoot walkathon will take place on Saturday, 30 May 2015 from 8am to 12pm at the picturesque Palawan Beach. Zip down the flying fox or challenge your limits at the rock-climbing wall. Bring your kids along too! They’ll have fun at the Habitat Village and Kids’ Corner. The martial arts demonstrations and musical performances promise to make this a fun-filled family event for all ages.
Over S$300,000 was raised from last year’s edition of Bare Your Sole, with a turnout of over 5,000 participants! This year, we aim to raise even more.
Online registration for Bare Your Sole 2015 is available at www.bareyoursole.org.sg. Early bird registration runs until 19 April 2015 while regular registration closes on 23 May 2015. The event pack collection will take place over May 23-24 at Orchard Central from 11am to 9pm daily.
