Chez Vous has been around for 20 years, starting out as a modest salon in Bugis Junction before growing into the luxury boutique salon that it is today. It is the first salon in Singapore to launch the “only hair directors allowed” policy, so you can take comfort in the fact that your precious hair will only be handled by professionals with at least 12 years of experience.
With a “We’ll Fix It” programme, Chez Vous will repair anyone whose hair has been damaged or badly cut by other salons at absolutely no charge if you visit them within 5 days! Although pricey, the service you’ll receive and how glorious your hair will feel after promises that entrusting your hair to Chez Vous is bang for your buck. We went down to learn more about the experience.
The luminous Hydra Bar is the first thing that greets you when you step into Chez Vous. It’s a classy spot for customers waiting for their appointment, and you are free to help yourself to Laduree teas and organic bites.
The WOW private room is fit for a celebrity. It’s illuminated by pastel LED lights, and caters to VIPs who require a more private service. Its usage comes at a premium of $20.
The Splash Zone is the perfect place for a sweet snooze. Contrary to this picture, the room is usually dimly lit and I found myself drifting away to dreamland as I was getting my hair washed and my scalp massaged.
The arm chairs are nearly 10 years old! Yet, they’re the most comfortable things ever. The salon is fully aware of this fact and refuses to swap them for more modern pieces.
Currently, the salon is showcasing the designs of Rêvasseur, a local fashion label which has graced the runway of Seoul Fashion Week and had its designs on display at the New York Fashion Week 2010.
I’ve never been too adventurous with my hair – I had never even used a curling iron or straightener in my life! I loved my natural hair, and I was thus quite hesitant about getting highlights done due to fear of damage.
Jamie, my hair director, assured me that ash-brown highlights would look great on my long hair and against my skin tone. She also vouched that the hair treatment I’ll receive after the highlights were done would protect it. Feeling assured, I dived straight in.
I decided to get ash-brown highlights on the bottom half of my hair ($75+). After a quick trim and with numerous foils wrapped around my hair as part of the dyeing process, my hair was pampered with the posh Hair Treats package ($135+), which is tailored to the needs of individual customers.
The first step was the ‘Recharge & Refuel’, which is meant to tackle very dry hair. It locks in the hair’s moisture, allowing it to feel soft and conditioned.
This was then followed by ‘Feed & Fit’ to strengthen fragile hair. It contains different kinds of hair repair elements which mend damaged areas of the hair fibre.
The last step was the ‘Soothe & Smooth’, meant to tame and smooth out frizzy hair. This step helps to seal and lock all the previous goodness that was done to my hair, by cling-wrapping the scalp to ensure no moisture is lost.
After one final wash, Jamie proceeded to blow-dry and style my hair.
I was beyond satisfied with the final product. It was the first time seeing a pop of colour in my locks and having it curled so professionally to resemble mermaid hair, and I loved it!

My thick long hair was no longer heavy and bushy, and my locks looked much more stylish.
Jo-Anne’s golden highlights give her hair much more character, and her tresses looked much neater and more tamed.
