It’s time to put on our singing hats, because Disney’s Beauty & The Beast musical is coming to Singapore – their only stop in Asia – this December. Playing at Sands Theatre in Marina Bay Sands, this will be a brand new iteration of the Broadway musical, which last came to Singapore in 2015.

If you caught the show that came to town 10 years ago, that version was produced in 1994, and played for over a decade on Broadway – one of the longest-running shows in the history of Broadway.

Behind this brand-new iteration of the tale as old as time are the same creative minds from the OG Broadway musical – choreographer and director, Olivier Award nominee Matt West, composer Alan Menken, lyricist Tim Rice, book writer Linda Woolverton, scenic designer Stan Meyer, costume designer Ann Hould-Ward and lighting designer Natasha Katz.
After taking Australia by storm since the new production hit the stage in 2023, the all-new show is headed to Singapore this December – with a refreshed take, new sets, costumes, state-of-the-art technology, and a generous load of good old Disney magic.

Just in case you’re unfamiliar with the story, this most beloved of Disney Princesses starts as the bookworm daughter of an inventor, both of whom don’t fit in with the rest of their “poor provincial town”. Gaston, the town’s hunter, is infatuated with Belle, but she finds him repulsive.
She “wants adventure in the great wide somewhere”, and it comes to her in the form of the Beast, whose castle she is trapped in when she takes her father’s place as the Beast’s prisoner.

She falls in love with the Beast, who’s truly a selfish prince cursed to live in this form until he learns to love another, and earn her love in return – before the last petal on an enchanted rose falls. Spoiler alert! He dies in a fight with Gaston, but true love prevails, and they live happily ever after.
