When I think of Regent Singapore, the first thing that comes to mind is Basilico, their flagship Italian restaurant. Many foodies regard their buffet as being one of the best in Singapore and its probably the absolute best in the under $50 category. Their buffet lunches on Weekdays are priced at $42++ and on Weekends $46++.
I was there recently to check out their Savour the Seasons a la carte menu. Diners can expect their seasonally driven Basilissimo menu to change throughout the year, reflecting the seasons of Italy.
Il Crudo
Sicilian Tuna Loin with Bronte Pistachio, Sea Bass Fillet cured with Amalfi Lemon and Cured Salmon marinated with Wild Fennel
Risotto ai Porcini
Risotto with Porcini Mushroom, Braised Young Leek and Cured Venison Tenderloin with Juniper Berries in a Gaia Barbaresco Wine Reduction
Agnello Sardo
Grilled Spring Lamb Chops with Castello Artichokes, Violet Potato Puree and Thyme Jus
La Porchetta
Slow-roasted Suckling Pig with Radicchio and Pecorino in a Cartoccio Peach and Basil Sauce
La Sfera al Pistacchio
Pistachio Sphere
Now that you’ve seen what’s in store for their a la carte menu, here’s a quick look at their buffet.
Although Basilico is marketed as an “Italian” buffet, there also have a fair share of local favourites specially prepared by their chef trained in local cuisine. Standouts were the Kung Pao Chicken and Herbal Chicken Soup which had an interesting velvety appearance. There’s an extensive live station area that whips up anything from custom pastas to scamone di wagyu.
And lastly, there’s a generous spread of desserts which the girls and their second stomachs will love.
This was about my 7th trip to Basilico and we usually come here for the buffets. We last tried their a la carte menu on Valentine’s Day about two years ago.
It’s really hard to single out my favourite from the a la carte menu because everything I tried was so good. If I had to pick two it would be the Risotto and the Pistachio Sphere. I had never seen anything like that before and I love pistachio!
It was a creamy dessert wrapped in a beautiful ball of chocolaty goodness. It’s available for sale at Dolcett and the inside flavours change regularly.
Now if you can’t decide on whether to get the buffet or a la carte menu, note the “Savour the Seasons” menu is available as part of Basilissimo at dinner priced at $82++. So you can have the antipasti and dessert buffets and for your mains, you get to choose from the nine seasonal courses.
