Vinyl collectors swear by the fact that listening to music on a record player just hits different. And aside from the smooth, rich audio these players produce, even us non-experts will agree that there’s something extra classy about listening to our favourite tunes the “old-fashioned” way.
The only downside? Vinyl records tend to be quite pricey. But if you’re looking for one that’s worth saving up for, we’ve got just the thing for you. ART/ST Records at Katong lets you create your very own vinyl record; fully customisable and 100% functional.

ART/ST Records – pronounced “artist records” – is a home studio at Katong specialising in lathe-cut records. It’s open from Fridays to Sundays only, and runs on an appointment basis.
Each 2.5 to 3 hour Private Workshop costs $388, and you’ll get to customise and watch your very own EP being made from scratch. Up to 2 people can attend the session, but you’ll have to top-up $100 if you want to purchase an additional disc.
Alternatively, those keen on just creating a simple record with no designs can opt for the more affordable Live Demo Experience, which costs $238/pax. This workshop fits up to 4 attendees, and lasts around 1.5 to 2 hours instead.
Watch your EP being made from start to finish.

Whether you’re signing up for the Private Workshop or Live Demo Experience, you’ll get to take home your own 8-inch square record.
Don’t forget to prepare your fave audio clips beforehand – this can be anything from an original song to a sentimental voice recording, as long as the files don’t exceed 7 minutes.

If you’re attending the Private Workshop, be sure to bring along personal photos and cut-outs of things you want on your EP as well. To get your creative juices flowing, you’ll be provided materials like acrylic paint, markers, stickers, and even an Instax printer to help give your masterpiece an artsy finish.

Making an EP at ART/ST Records might not be the cheapest activity around, but it’s a one-of-a-kind experience that art and vinyl lovers are sure to enjoy. Plus, where else would you be able to produce your very own EP, to shelve amongst your Pink Floyd and Nirvana records?
