A Farmers’ Market At Raffles City Is Being Held By Local Growers From The Ends Of Singapore

Growing up, I’ve become familiar with grocery runs to the nearest supermarkets, walking along their pristine aisles and ogling at perfectly arranged rows of food. Needless to say, one wouldn’t necessarily imagine a farm anywhere near home, and travelling to the extreme ends of SG just for some fresh produce seems out of the question.

Turns out, there’s a farmers’ market right in the heart of town. Happening from 29th to 30th July, Raffles City Farmers’ Market is teaming up with home-grown farmers and food artisans – here’s sneak peek at some of the tasty treats they’ve got to offer:

1. Crack – Egg-centric dishes from the farm to your plate

Be it scrambled, fried or poached, there’s probably a bajillion ways to work with the humble egg – and Crack does just that. But forget the basics. From Cracking Good Egg Sandwiches to their signature Otah Scotch Eggs that give Borough Market a run for its money, this stall is a must-visit for all the egg fanatics out there.

Fact: Crack gets its supply from N&N Agriculture, which farms fresh AA grade eggs right here in Lim Chu Kang.

2. Kerbside Gourmet – SG’s first gourmet food truck

Armed with a food truck affectionately named “Kerby”, Kerbside Gourmet first hit the streets in 2013. It’s since amassed quite the fanbase, and it’s not hard to see why. They’ve got an arsenal of hearty dishes under their belt – like Garam Masala Fried Chicken Burger and Cold Soba with slow cooked local egg, ebiko and spicy sesame dressing.

You can’t leave without trying their Bak Chor Mee Hotdog either. A twist to a hot hawker favourite, this bun comes topped with vinegar-braised mushrooms, seared minced pork and even some crunchy noodles for added texture.

Plus, they’re all about serving up wholesome meals without scrimping on flavour. So dig in without worrying about ingesting a crapton of MSG, additives or any other unpronounceable ingredients we see in most processed foods these days.

Kerbside Gourmet also donates meals to needy families for every main meal sold, proving this food truck to be like no other.

Note: Kerbside Gourmet will only be at the event on Sunday

3. Uncle G’s Handmade – Local roast connoisseurs

If there’s one thing the good folks at Uncle G’s Handmade are known for, it’s crispy roast pork. Slow-roasted to perfection, the tender meat comes with a layer of crispy crackling for that extra oomph.

The stall’s husband-and-wife team are constantly cooking up new items too, like Hot Sauce Buffalo Wings and Prawn Paste Pork Jowl Nuggets. There’s no fixed menu, so pop by this weekend to check out what they’ve got.

4. Kühlbarra – Fresh barramundi harvested in SG

Preparing fish isn’t always the easiest, and neither is dealing with any “fishy” stench. Kühlbarra delivers top-grade barramundi with its Farm-to-Fork process which ensures that only the freshest seafood is harvested to order.

The fish is then submerged in ice, filleted and vacuum-packed in a cold room, before being delivered. This process is better than buying fish at the regular supermarkets too – sounds pretty kühl to us!

5. Packet Greens – Home-grown urban farming

Of course, a farmers’ market wouldn’t be complete without some fresh greens. Packet Greens is an indoor urban farm that specialises in growing zero-pesticide produce. All vegetables are grown with some special TLC from in-house farmers, who even cultivate certain plants that would typically be unable to grow in Singapore.

With more than 50 varieties of veggies and herbs to pick from, there’s no reason to call salads boring ever again.

Other participating vendors:

  • Sea Farmers @ Ubin
  • Secret Moments Creations
  • Royal Catering
  • Apollo Marine
  • Uncle William
  • Ah Hua Kelong
  • Cerana Honey
  • Essential Oil
  • Husk’s Ware
  • UGS
  • Panasonic Singapore

There’s no need to visit the veggie farms in Kranji or hop on a boat to visit offshore kelongs for fresh produce. With a large variety of locally harvested products and artisanal items available at Raffles City Farmers’ Market, a weekend here’ll be more than your typical supermarket run. Even if you aren’t looking to purchase anything, admission is free – so no harm in popping by!

The 2-day event will also include a fun array of activities for visitors to enjoy, such as Edible Terrarium workshops and a Rooftop Farm Tour.

Date: 29th – 30th July (Saturday – Sunday)
Time: 11AM – 8.30PM
Location: Raffles City, Level 1, External Quartzite
Address: Free
