Thai woman deceived into giving ฿1.2M to a medium

In Thai culture, a spiritual medium is believed to be a person possessed by an ancestral god, and is highly revered in certain communities.

The ancestral god is said to be capable of making predictions, conferring protection onto mortals, and sometimes providing treatment for certain diseases that cannot be cured by scientific methods.

Communities believe that the medium serves as a bridge of communication between humans and the deity.

However, some people use this faith in mediums as part of a ploy to make money in illegal ways.

Here’s the story of Thai woman in Ratchaburi who was deceived into giving ฿1.2 Million (~USD37,000) to the person who claimed to be a medium for her ancestral spirit.

Let’s see why the woman thought it was worth paying money to the medium.

Thai woman is deceived into donating money to the medium to ward off bad luck

On 15th November 2021, the story of Thai woman named Kai (alias), 46, who was deceived into giving ฿1.2 Million (~USD37,000) to a medium went viral on social media.

The press had posted a clip of her and her friend Ae (alias), who claimed to be a medium, arguing over where the money went.

The argument between the two took place in front of Ae’s house where Kai sister, reporters, and renowned shaman, Mor Phla, witnessed the incident.

The quarrel intensified after Ae refused to explain the truth about where the ฿1.2 Million (~USD37,000) from Kai went, which provoked an outburst of anger from Kai’s sister.

Eventually, it was revealed that Ae was not an actual medium after Moh Phra dared Ae to invite the spirit of Thao Wessuwan, their ancestral god, to possess her, and she refused to do so.

“We just wanna talk to Thao Wessuwan, not you. He’s such a bad spirit for scamming humans”, Moh Phra said to Ae.

“Ancestral gods or whatever holy spirits never take advantage of humans. It’s all fueled by human greed”, Moh Phra continued.

Kai, who fell into prey set by scammer, then gave Ae money ฿300,000 (~USD9,000).

Ae proceed to con Kai into lending her more money in exchange for warding off Kai’s bad luck, until Kai ran up massive debt of ฿1.2 Million (~USD37,000).

Translation: Why it’s so easy to swindle the rich?

Meanwhile, another viewer was wondering why rich people seem to be more likely to give into scams.

While the medium is considered to be possessed by the holy spirit, scammers who successfully convince others to give them money are believed to be impelled by their inner evil and greedy spirit.

Be careful when spending large sums of money

While we cannot tell whether mediums are truly possessed by the holy spirits or not, one thing we can be sure about is that it’s truly a shame when someone you thought you could trust swindles you out of that much money.

We really hope that Kai will get through this difficulty in one day.
