Businesses marked in colours

As new COVID-19 cases in Thailand started to decline daily, the government is now looking to ease the lockdown and reopen businesses.
The Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration categorised businesses into 4 colours, representing different levels of COVID-19 risk associated with the venues. The factors include density, time spent, activity, and air ventilation.

The colour codes will be taken into consideration regarding the reopening and measures to prevent possible transmission.
1. White code is for no-risk businesses:
- Street vendors
- Open-air stalls
The owners don’t need to register in order to reopen their businesses.
2. Green code is for businesses deemed low-risk:
- Bookshops
- Clothes shops
- Regular stores
- Parks
The operators must register their businesses online to reopen and must follow the government’s safety guidelines.
3. Yellow code represents moderate-risk businesses:
- Food courts
- Malls
- Flea Markets
- Salons
- Clinics
- Swimming pools
The owners must register online and wait for approval to reopen. Also, they must follow strict guidelines provided by the authorities.
4. Red code is for high-risk businesses:
- Bars and clubs
- Air-conditioned sports venues (Gyms etc)
- Exhibition halls
- Cinemas
- Cafes
- Cram schools
Any businesses fall into this category will remain closed until further notice.

Besides the business sector, provinces around Thailand were also being categorised into colours to indicate its risk level by the Department of Communicable Disease Control.
- Red areas = new infections within 7 days.
- Orange areas = new infections within 7 – 14 days.
- Yellow areas = new infections within 14 – 28 days.
- Light green areas = no new infections in the last 28 days
- Green areas = no infections found

In the proposal by Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Public Health, the government is encouraged to reopen businesses throughout the country by considering the 2 factors above.
The plan includes opening dates which are separated into 3 phases, starting from 1st May, then 15th May, and 1st June.
The first businesses to be reopened are those in the green zone and the green businesses in the yellow and red zones.
However, there’s no confirmation of whether or not the government will decide to accept the proposal.
We hope to see things resume to normal soon – but, of course, safety comes first.
