The return of Bangkok’s Chinatown

Yaowarat Road, also known as Bangkok’s Chinatown, has always been a well-loved nightspot to go and get some yummy grub to stuff our tummies with. Sadly, after COVID-19 hit the world a couple of months ago, this vivid hotspot once packed with Bangkokians and tourists transformed into a ghost town.
However, due to the dropping rate of infections in the city, Yaowarat is slowly springing back to life.
Visitors must still take safety precautions
The Nation shared photos of people returning to Yaowarat – it’s a great sight to see the roads awake again after a short nap. With the curfew still active, everything is allowed to be open till the early evenings only.

The number of infections has been on a decline lately, which has lifted the spirits of locals.

Street vendors and stores have started to set up their booths as per normal. However, there is a stark difference in the atmosphere – there are no bustling crowds, and everyone is still cautious with face masks in order to be safe.
Plus, the night vibes at Yaowarat will not be returning anytime soon due to the curfew and heightened precautions against large gatherings of people.

Though we’re seeing a drop in cases, it doesn’t necessarily mean that COVID-19 is fully under control. Officials have yet to make an announcement on a change in safety measures, so let’s continue to self-isolate and only go out if absolutely necessary in order to prevent the number of cases spiking again.
