Yoong Chang Chinese restaurant in Ari

We are familiar with Thai-style noodle dishes that come in different types of flavours like Tom Yum, and Yen-Ta-Fo’s signature pink noodles. Old dishes have a long history that linked to Chinese cuisine, and one such dish that is coming to Thailand is Biang Biang Mian.

Yoong Chang is a restaurant that welcomes Thai foodies to try their signature biang biang noodles. The store is tucked away in Ari Samphan Soi 6, which only a 5-minute ride by motorcycle-taxi from Ari BTS station.

This restaurant is the first and only store in Bangkok that serves homemade hand-pulled Biang Biang Mian. These noodles are made from wheat flour and are thicker and longer than your usual kuay teow noodles. Chef and owner Kunlapon Samsen brought this traditional style of noodles from the city of Xian,  China, and has given each dish a twist to suit Thai tastebuds.

Signature dishes include Biang Smoked Barbecue Red Pork With Chicken Soup (฿215). The pork is smoked for almost 3 hours, giving the meat a nice BBQ taste. Yoong Chang also offers choices for vegans with their Biang Noodles with Sesame Oil and Fried Onions (฿160).

The dry dish comes with a good dose of fragrant sesame oil and a juicy egg yolk, which makes the dish rich and creamy. The soft texture of the biang biang mian goes together well with the crispy fried onions that top the dish.

Many Chinese snacks are on offer too, and a must-try is Rou Jia Mo (฿215), a soft steamed bun that comes filled with minced pork marinated together with herbs and spices.
