Thai Airways to resume international flights to Phuket

Thai Airways is currently preparing charter flights to bring tourists into Phuket, a resort island and popular travel destination in southern Thailand.

This decision was announced after the government’s plans to revive tourism in the country, which was greatly affected by COVID-19 since it first hit in January.

6 countries for now

The airline will be arranging routes for travellers from 6 countries, shared Acting President of Thai Airways Chansin Treenuchagron:

  • Japan
  • South Korea
  • Hong Kong
  • Germany
  • Denmark
  • England

There will be 2 flights a month per route, reported Thai News Agency. For further ease, tourists will also be able to make arrangements for accommodation in Phuket with the airline itself.

This is expected to roll out by late November, after which routes might be tweaked depending on air travel demands.

Treenuchagron also shared that the airline will be making sure to prioritise the safety of passengers, and that proper COVID-19 safety measures will be put in place. This includes social distancing during check-in and boarding, as well as cabin crew members being equipped with the necessary protective gear. All aircrafts will also be disinfected and deep cleaned accordingly.

It was also reported that Thai Airways was the first carrier to receive Amazing Thailand’s Safety & Health Administration (SHA) for complying with the Ministry of Public Health’s measures in place for COVID-19.

This is huge news for those looking to pack their bags and begin travelling again, as well as for the tourism industry in Thailand.
