Tee Auan Po Pla – cheap gyoza in Bangkok

Tee Auan Po Pla

Tee Auan Po Pla is a humble store that’s been serving simple street-side grub like fishballs and soy milk in the Charoennakorn area for almost 30 years. But once the gyoza wave hit Thailand, the owners were inspired to jump on the trend and bring affordable dumplings to Bangkokians.

What to get at Tee Auan Po Pla

The store is made up of 2 sections – one sells just sweet treats and pa tong go (deep-fried dough sticks), while the other section is where gyoza can be found.

Aside from classic fillings like chicken and pork, we got to try their special flavours – shrimp and chicken with cheese. With all the options we had, we simply couldn’t pick just one – so we decided to get all 4 flavours, which cost only ฿320 (~USD10.50) for 30 pieces

However, if you have less tummy space, you can also get 16 pieces for ฿200 (~USD6.60).

Our combo set came with dipping sauces and a side of Yunnan-style kimchi, which added a tart flavour to the gyoza.

Inside each gyoza was a generous amount of filling, leaving not much space for any empty “air pockets” in our dumplings. It was also nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked.

Our favourite had to be the shrimp gyoza, which came wrapped in a charcoal dough. It’s even tastier once dipped into the sauce, along with the kimchi. It has a got bite and wasn’t too mushy.

Do note that the shrimp filling is mixed with a little bit of pork.

Getting to the stall

Tee Auan Po Pla

The shop is roughly a 10-minute walk from Krung Thonburi BTS, so it’s quite easily accessible. Just leave through Exit 4 and walk through Krung Thonburi Road to Charoennakorn Road. You can refer to the map here

Though the shop is not that fancy, it is clean and has air-con, which allowed us to sit and eat here comfortably even though it was super hot outside.

You can find lots of Japanese and Chinese restaurants that serve fried gyoza in Bangkok, but they might not always be affordable or really tasty. So if you’re in for a delicious midday snack, head over to Tee Auan Po Pla.
