Malaysians have learned to adapt with the recent bans on plastic bags and straws. And while it took some getting used to, we’ve found several chic eco-friendly items along the way so that we can continue to indulge in our boba tea cravings and look stylish at it.

And going green doesn’t have to stop there. To springboard off it, we’ve rounded up 12 zero waste stores in Klang Valley so you can make more switches and buy only what you need to reduce waste. You’re also encouraged to bring your own containers at these bulk stores, as most of the products don’t come in wasteful packaging.

1. Frangipani Bulk – get a zero-waste starter kit


Frangipani Bulk has been selling organic, homemade beauty products from bazaars since 2017. But it now has its own zero waste store at The Linc KL that’s filled with all sorts of products – from kitchen utensils to facial cleansers and organic cotton pads – that use minimum packaging.

For zero-waste newbies who aren’t sure where to start, they have a Zero-Waste Starter Kit (RM190). This reusable glass jar is filled with 10 products for everyday use, including Foldable Spork (RM6), Wooden Toothbrush (RM16) made with horsehair, and Organic Solid Toothpaste Mint (RM25) – which you can get individually at the store as well.

Additionally all of Frangipani’s products are labelled to let you know which items in its store are gluten free, organic, vegan, handmade, fair trade, or made locally. This will help you be more environmentally-conscious while shopping.

2. Liquid Etc – liquids sold by the gram

Liquid Etc is known for their liquid goods sold by weight. Stock up on its best-sellers, such as the All Natural Baby Head to Toe Cleanser (RM10/100gm) that works well as facial cleanser for adults too, and Fly Away (RM0.60/100gm) a non-toxic lemongrass liquid that cleans kitchen tops and repels bugs. 

Don’t miss out on its variety of homemade non-dairy milk that are great for those with dietary restrictions or those looking for a healthy food switch. Options include Hazelnut (RM20/litre), Cashew (RM20/litre), and Oat Milk (RM7/litre), which you can add RM1 to sweeten with natural red dates. You’ll have to pre-order these milk alternatives and pick them up fresh in-store on Tuesdays.

And be sure to check out the thrift corner with pre-loved items from RM5-RM15. There’re also shelves of books where you can exchange your old books for new ones to read over classic snacks such as Hup Seng Cream Crackers (RM1.10/100g) and Peanut Butter Sandwich Biscuits (RM2/100g).

3. NULL Zero Waste Factory – located at department stores

There are more than enough spots in shopping malls to get scented body wash and lotions that leave us smelling like a garden of peonies. But for a waste-free option in Mid Valley Mall, drop by Metrojaya and Robinsons for NULL Zero Waste Factory’s green options and another spot to add to your easy-to-access zero waste stores.

Founded in 2019, Null’s line of beauty and house products are all cruelty-free and non-toxic. It’s also housed in biodegradable dispensers so you can stock up on alcohol-free NULL Body Cleanser (RM19.90/500ml), organic NULL Organic Facial Soap (RM19/each), and NULL Disinfected Hand Soap (RM15.90/each) without harming the planet.

4. Seedy Zero Waste Store – eco-friendly lip balms and tints

Seedy Zero Waste Store is another shop on the list that carries products that come with minimal to no packaging. You can find an assortment of pantry items, including beans and grains, dried fruits, nuts, and seeds, as well as beauty products and household liquids. 

And you won’t have to miss out on your favourite foods by going waste-free, as they have Veggie Pasta Spiral (RM9/100g) and Plain Pasta with Egg (RM4/100g), as well as Hock Chew Mee Shua (RM1.50/pc) and Organic Whole Wheat Spaghetti (RM1.50/100g), for you to stock up on.

You’ll also find other waste-free beauty offerings of Noosh Natural’s Unisex Deodorant (RM35/22ml), Lips Carpenter’s Lip Balm (RM23) in honey ginger and wonder fruit, and Lip Colour (RM40) in nude pink and red. 5. Zero Waste Earth Store – package-free snacks and coffee grounds

Feel like a kid in a candy store at Zero Waste Earth Store. This relatively new bulk store opened its doors in Setia Alam in July 2019, and it’s already frequented by those in the area for its variety of package-free snacks. 

Those with a sweet tooth will be glad to know that they have Biskut Choco Bear (RM0.30/10g) and Sour Jelly Tapes (RM0.35/10g). But if you’re craving something savoury, there are also old-school childhood snacks such as Biskut Iced Gem (RM0.30/10g) and Murukku Kari Mixed (RM0.25/10g), as well as Japanese Wasabi Peanuts (RM0.28/10g).

For healthier eats, head for their Nutty Choco Orange Granola (RM0.70/10g) and Nutty Coconut Kaya Granola (RM0.70/10g) that goes well with milk and yoghurt. 

You can also find hot beverages to go with your haul, including Roasted Ground Coffee from South India (RM0.95/10g) and Masala Tea from Nepal (RM1/10g) that’s sold package-free as well.

6. ieCo BYOC Concept Store – handmade cold process soaps

Switching to soap bars means you’ll be getting rid of plastic packaging that liquid soaps usually come in. So if you’re thinking of making this switch, i-Eco BYOC Concept Store has affordable handmade soap bars in Papaya, Coffee Mocha Scrub, Black Sesame, and Rue Herbs Marseille scents (RM18/100g) that all come without wasteful packaging.

7. Conzerve – eco-friendly supermarket shopping

Conzerve is a supermarket with an eco-friendly twist. It carries breads, pastries, and vegetables that all come without packaging so you won’t have to worry about reading labels to find out if it’s recyclable or not. 

They have organic vegetables that are sold by the gram, such as Asparagus (RM10/300g) and Carrots (RM4/200g). Or get a Vege Bag (RM30) that comes with seasonal crunchy greens like brinjal, sawi cameron, and butterhead lettuce that saves you from having to make any decisions on what to buy.

There are also options of fresh bakes, such as Cinnamon Loaf (RM18), Chocolate Rolls (RM26) and Buns Coconut Filling (RM16), with options of gluten-free Eggless Chocolate Cake 6” (RM25) and Vegan Bread Loaf (RM28). 8. Wowo Refill Store – homey store that reuses plastic bottles


Wowo Refill Store is a homey eco-friendly store tucked away in Ampang that reuses plastic bottles to hold its liquid household products. This helps maximise its use before it gets sent off to a recycling center.

This neighborhood spot has everything from shower gel (RM8/kg), laundry powder (RM6/kg) and bleach (RM2/kg), to toilet bowl cleaner (RM7/kg) and car wax (RM4.50/kg).

Rice is a staple in most Malaysians’ diets. Which is why you’ll be glad to know that 33 Rice Mart – an organic store that sells over 33 types of package-free rice – has 5 branches throughout Klang Valley in Kepong, Selayang, and PJ.

While it sells organic products in plastic packaging, you can skip these and head to the bins that contain all sorts of organic rice that you can scoop into your own container or bag.

11. A Bit Less Bulk Store – package-free soy sauce

We know and love A Bit Less Bulk Store for providing KL-ites with eco-friendly beauty products, and grocery finds of Organic Potato Starch (RM4.75/100g) and Organic Cane Sugar (RM0.95/100g). But look out for their package-free and locally-made series of soy sauces that are rare finds at zero waste stores.

Stray Folk is unique to zero waste stores on the list, doubling up as a cosy coworking space and eco-friendly store. There’s also workshops for you to learn how to make your own beeswax wraps and soaps, and other creative classes such as acrylic-drip painting and photography printing.

Look out for their eco-friendly corner that sells package-free grains and nuts, as well as beauty products from environmentally-conscious brands such as Kinder Soap and Organically Moi
