It’s common knowledge that the Movement Control Order (MCO) has been pretty hard on the elderly community, as they are not only considered a high risk group, it’s also tougher for them to adapt to social distancing measures. This is why Malaysians have been extending an extra helping hand towards them, with frontliners seen piggy-backing them to get them tested for COVID-19 and police officers helping a lost OKU elderly woman to return home.

In an added effort to look out for the elderly community at this time, the Petaling Jaya District Police has been dropping by their homes to check in on them. This saw a sweet reunion between Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm, Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal, and an elderly woman who used to buy him paus when he was a kid.

Reunion reveals touching news clippings of police chief

Photos of the reunion between Nik Ezanee and the elderly woman called A Xiang was shared on PJ District Police’s official Facebook page earlier today on 17th June 2020. It showed him showing up at her doorstep with a plastic bag of paus and a box of face masks, along with a team of police officers and military personnels.

A video shared online of the reunion also showed A Xiang opening her door in a hurry to let Nik Ezanee inside her home, and greeting him warmly with several pats on his shoulder as if he were an old friend.

But the bringing of paus as a gift to A Xiang wasn’t a random choice. According to China Press, their families used to work together when the police chief was younger. And every time Nik Ezanee tagged along when his family members went to work, A Xiang would be there and would always give him free paus to eat.

So when the initiative was launched at Petaling Jaya District Police, Nik Ezanee wanted to visit the kind woman who used to look out for him when he was younger. This saw heartwarming moments emerging from the visit, with him quipping “We are your bodyguards” in reference to the team of armed men who showed up her house.

He could also be heard asking her “If her neighbours have been nice to her” in the same video. As if that wasn’t sweet enough, Nik Ezanee even showed her photos of his son on his phone when they sat down inside her home to catch up.

In a totally unexpected move, A Xiang pulled out a stash of newspaper clippings of Nik Ezanee’s promotions and success stories at work, showing that she had been keeping herself up to date with his life. Among the pile was a recent photo of him taken in February 2020 to commemorate his appointment as the new Petaling Jaya District Police Chief.
