Drivers initiate car rescue mission for aunty
Drivers may have heard their mums or friends fuss them about keeping car doors locked once you get into the vehicle, especially in secluded areas such as car parks. While most heed the advice, there are times when we forget to do so.
One woman had an unfortunate tale to tell of a man who entered the backseat of her car while she was at a traffic light in broad daylight as her car doors were unlocked. In a fortunate twist of events after he took control of the car, several drivers who witnessed the car robbery chased and blocked the car to stop his escape.

On 14th April 2021, netizen Kokong Yee took to his Facebook account to share several videos of the incident and subsequent car chase that happened around 1PM along a stretch of road from Sri Petaling to Kuchai Lama.
In the first dashcam video taken from a car, an aunty can be seen opening and closing the front and back doors of her Honda City. She also passes quick, frantic glances over to other drivers, as if asking for assistance.

According to a conversation heard in the 3rd video shared by Yee, this wasn’t all too random. The aunty can be heard saying that she had stopped her car at a traffic light near NSK when she saw a man jump into the backseat of her car.
In panic and fear, she immediately got out of her car.

When questioned how the man managed to do so, she said that she had not locked her car doors. Because of this, Yee wrote in his Facebook caption a reminder to lady drivers to lock their car doors while driving to avoid situations such as these.
Witnesses come to aunty’s aid, chasing after stolen car
While most car robberies don’t come with a happy ending, this one did. Several drivers who witnessed the car robbery that took place stepped in to the aunty’s aid when they saw what happened.

Quick thinking from the drivers saw them banding together to surround the stolen Honda, with one of them even cutting in front of the Honda to block its path and slow it down. 2 other drivers also kept close to the left side of the Honda to cut off its potential escape routes on the narrow 2-lane road.

Around the 25-second mark of the 2nd video, a young man is seen walking up to the stolen car and the robber, who had no choice but to slow down because of the car blockade, and dragging the robber out of the driver’s seat.
He also proceeds to hold the man down by sitting on him to ensure that he had no chance of running away from the scene. Even in the midst of all the action and adrenaline, he remembered to put the brakes on the car – a move which netizens were quick to take notice of and praise him for it.

Towards the end of the clip, the aunty can be seen again reunited with her almost-stolen car. She had presumably been given a ride by another driver during the car chase, showing Malaysians’ helping spirit.
Looking understandably frazzled, one of the drivers, who helped blocked the car in with his own vehicle, even tried his best to console her by patting her on her back.
It is not shown what happened to the man who attempted to steal the aunty’s car, only that he was surrounded by individuals making sure he didn’t run off in the last clip shared by Yee. It is also not stated if the woman had pursued further action against the robber by reporting him to the police.
Strangers help foil car robbery by chasing after stolen car
Recent statistics from the Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia Berhad, published on 8th April, says that a vehicle is stolen every 1 hour and 15 minutes in Malaysia, as reported by The Edge Malaysia. With this case of attempted car robbery that happened yesterday, and quick thinking from helpful strangers who stepped in to chase after the stolen car, we are reminded to exercise caution and to lend a hand to strangers in times of distress.
