Beard Brothers’ BBQ in Petaling Jaya

Meat lovers can all agree that tender meat that falls off the bone when you bite into them is the only way to go when it comes to scrumptious cuts such as brisket and ribs. It doesn’t matter if we have to get our hands dirty – that’s part of the fun of feasting on meats served straight off the grill.

A joint that takes their meat seriously is Beard Brothers’ BBQ in Petaling Jaya. This barbecue spot serves up Texas-style ribs, brisket, pulled meats and more that gets marinated for 6 hours and smoked for another 12. With all these options served a la carte or as a set meal with 4 sides, meat lovers will be in for a satisfying meal of smoked, tender meat.

Pitmasters – or barbecue experts – operate their barbecue pits with patience and pride, and it’s apparent here at Beard Brother’s BBQ. Their racks of meats, which are imported from Australia, are marinated for 6 hours with a dry-rub special recipe made up of different spices.

Beard Brothers BBQ - smokers
Meats are grilled at the restaurant at these heavy-duty cast-iron smokers.

They are then smoked Texas-style for over 12 hours with smouldering chunks of local rubber and mangrove wood in burners to achieve that deep smoky flavours – a signature of the meats served here.

Get slabs of ribs and tender cuts of beef brisket

Beard Brother BBQ’s menu is entirely pork-free so if your friends have dietary restrictions for these meats, they can still join you here.

We recommend starting the meal with their Personal Plate, with choices of Texas Star (RM26) beef brisket, or Sheep Thrill (RM29) pulled lamb that’s great for those who don’t want to get their hands messy with meat juices.

Or opt for Beard Brothers’ BBQ’s stars-of-the-menu, Mary Lamb Rib Slab (RM27/100g) and Naughty Short Beef Rib (RM31/100g), which are tender meat options served with bone intact that are priced by weight. If you’re worried about the bill totalling to an exorbitant amount, don’t be – they have an average price tag, so you won’t be in for too much of a surprise at the checkout.

Expect to pay around RM25 for a portion that can feed 2. Or go for platters such as Texas Star (RM26) for beef brisket and Sheep Thrill (RM29) for pulled lamb, that have standard prices.

Top up your plates of meat with choices from 10 sides – including mashed potatoes (RM9) with creamy gravy, coleslaw (RM9), or sweet potato fries (RM10), or their fluffy and freshly-baked potato bun (RM1) or cornbread (RM2).

If you like things sour and spicy, slices of pickles, pickled onions, and red chillies are also served free-of-charge alongside your meal to add a kick to each bite of meat.

Beard Brothers BBQ - sauces
Coat your meats with their selection of Keramat Spicy BBQ Sauce, Lamb Sauce Gordon, Memphis Smoky BBQ Sauce, and White Alabama Chicken Sauce.

You can also build your own plate here with options of Beef Brisket (RM19/100g), Pulled Lamb (RM22/100g), Lamb Rib Slab (RM27/100g), Beef Rib Bone (RM31/100g), ¼ Chicken (RM17), so you can try out a variety of meats all in one go.

Or opt for their platters instead if you’re coming in a group. The Relationsheep (RM180-220) is the most affordable option that’ll satisfy up to 3 people. It comes with quarter chicken, pulled lame, lamb ribs, 4 sides, as well as cornbread, 2 banana puddings, a slice of apple pie, and 2 refillable sparkling lemonades.

Cold brew coffee and alcohol-free baileys

Beard Brothers’ BBQ doesn’t limit their slow-burn cooking process to their barbecues either. They also carry a line of Rizalar crafted cold brew and cream coffee that gets brewed for over 24 hours at their restaurant.

Look out for their Le Creme Coffee (RM14) – a spin on Bailey Irish Cream that skips out on the alcohol so we can all enjoy this creamy drink with hints of cocoa, caramel and vanilla. Their Cold Brew (RM10) is a great refresher for caffeine addicts coming for a lunch break here too.
