Architect recreates massive replica of Hue Citadel for his mom<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There are various things we can do for our mom daily to make them feel appreciated, from bringing them out to dinners to cooking them meals.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the son in the story who happens to be an architect, the gift he offered his mother took him 7 years to complete.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Here’s how his efforts to give his elderly mom a taste of home, resulted in a masterpiece that has gone viral several times on the Internet.<\/p>\n

\nFollowing his parents from Hue<\/a> to Saigon at the age of 10, Nguyen Thanh Tung<\/strong> grew up to be a renowned architect in his 40s.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite nearly half a decade living in Saigon, his parents’ nostalgia for their hometown in Hue never faded.<\/span><\/p>\n

“My mom once expressed her concern that she wouldn’t be able to return to Hue as she advanced in years. That’s why I was determined to bring Hue into our home so my parents can look at their hometown every day,” Tung shared with <\/span>VNExpress<\/em><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

He started his project in 2000 and paid many visits to Hue for his research.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To add more authenticity to his work, he met with Hue historians and artisans to ask for their opinions. Heeding their advice, he built his model using stones imported from Buu Long, Bien Hoa.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2007, a model of Hue citadel built in a 1:700 scale was completed inside his 1,000 hectare-large garden in District 9.<\/span><\/p>\n

Boasting 151 landmarks of Hue including the Forbidden City, Huong River, Thien Mu Pagoda, Kings\u2019 mausoleums, and landscapes, the model was created with high accuracy and exquisite craftsmanship.<\/span><\/p>\n

As for the gigantic Emperor Khai Dinh\u2019s mausoleum area of the citadel, the model was designed in a perfect ratio, and also reflected the accurate dimensions to scale.<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s special about this miniature model is that it encompasses the majestic architecture of the Forbidden City such as Co Ha Garden, Kien Trung Palace, and Can Chanh Palace – places which were destroyed during the Vietnam War. <\/span><\/p>\n

This thoughtful recreation enables visitors to get the full picture of Hue\u2019s Forbidden City in its former glory.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>

\u201cI didn\u2019t think he could do it at first. After the model\u2019s completion, I felt so happy waking up to seeing Hue every day. I look at the model every day,\u201d shared Tung\u2019s mother.<\/span><\/p>\n

While the model was completed in 2007, it was not until 2017 that it was featured on VNExpress and garnered tremendous attention. 4 years later from the feature, Tung’s story is still being shared on social media.<\/p>\n
