Vietnamese man empowers local students with free martial arts lessons<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Martial arts can help you<\/span> lead a healthy lifestyle<\/b>, but also equip you with important skills to protect yourself and other people. However, not everyone can <\/span>afford martial arts lessons<\/b>, and schools don\u2019t normally teach this skill.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s why university student <\/span>Nguyen Thai Binh<\/b>\u00a0has been offering <\/span>free lessons<\/b><\/a> to fellow underprivileged students<\/b> for the last 2 years to pass on martial arts skills to those who\u2019re passionate about the sport.<\/span><\/p>\n

Binh<\/b> is a master of the traditional Vietnamese martial art <\/span>Binh Nam Dao<\/span><\/a>, also known as <\/span>Vobinada<\/b>, that originated from Ben Tre – known as the cradle of many Vietnamese martial art forms. He\u2019s also a student at<\/span> Ho Chi Minh City University of Education<\/b><\/a>.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Since 2018, <\/b>Binh has been running the university\u2019s Vobinada Club where he <\/span>shares his knowledge <\/b>and <\/span>passion about Vietnamese traditional martial arts <\/b>to his fellow students<\/span>. T<\/b>he club is situated at the back of the university dorms, and started off with only a few members.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aware that most students in his university were not well off, Binh decided to <\/span>train them for free. <\/b>Packed with<\/span> detailed philosophy<\/b> and <\/span>lots of routine practice sessions <\/b>like any other professional martial arts club, Binh\u2019s club made Vobinada grow in popularity among local students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Students learn in a <\/span>progressive manner<\/b>, starting from basic to advanced classes. There are a total of 4 levels, and students must pass tests to proceed to the next level of difficulty.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the past 2 years, over 300 students, both male and female, have joined the club to improve their health and learn self-defense skills.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, there are also students who joined to learn fitness skills so they can<\/span> qualify for physically challenging jobs.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

3rd-year student <\/span>Hao <\/b>shared how his free lessons with Binh helped him find a part-time job to support his family.

\u201cI\u2019m an orphan.<\/b> I have a younger sister who\u2019s now living with my grandmother, so I have to juggle jobs to pay for my sister\u2019s school fees. Receiving free yet quality training here <\/span>helped me get a martial arts teaching job <\/b>at a primary school. I earn <\/span>VND100,000 to VND200,000 (~USD4.31-USD8.63)<\/b> per class, which helps me a lot in paying for basic life expenses,<\/span>\u201d <\/b>Hoa said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked about the reason why he took up this noble cause, Binh became emotional, \u201cI came from a tough background and was <\/span>a victim of abuse<\/b> from my stepfather. Luckily, I was adopted by another family and taught martial arts.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

After growing in his skills and confidence through this sport, Binh has harbored the dream of imparting the <\/span>ideals of martial arts<\/b> to more people, and to use it for good. \u201cI want to help reduce <\/span>domestic abuse <\/b>and <\/span>school bullying<\/b><\/a>,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Martial arts have a lot of physical and mental benefits. Not only does it help you get into <\/span>tip-top shape<\/b> and <\/span>defend yourself<\/b> against attackers, but it can also build your<\/span> confidence<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since martial arts is a sport that<\/span> requires immense time, energy, and dedication<\/b> to master, it\u2019s uplifting to see Binh, a former victim of violence, freely sharing his valuable knowledge and skills with others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
