COVID-19 in Vietnam, update on 5th August 2020<\/h2>\n

20 new COVID-19 cases<\/strong> have been confirmed in Vietnam over the past 24 hours, putting the country\u2019s total patient count at 672. Of these, only 286 cases are active<\/strong>, while 378 have recovered<\/strong> from the disease. The latest 4 recoveries were reported yesterday.<\/p>\n

The central city of \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng remains the epicenter of this new wave of infection with 158 cases recorded so far. However, with most of the new cases contained within the \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng Hospital, authorities have asserted that the situation is under control<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Yesterday evening<\/strong>, the Ministry of Health announced 18 additional COVID-19 cases<\/strong>. Save for 1 imported case repatriated from Equatorial Guinea, all were linked to \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng, including 16 residents of the city and a 50-year-old man living in Bi\u00ean H\u00f2a City, \u0110\u1ed3ng Nai Province who had visited the \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng Hospital.<\/p>\n

This morning, two men<\/strong> aged 33 and 37 from \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng\u2019s neighbor province Qu\u1ea3ng Nam were also confirmed as Vietnam\u2019s latest 2 COVID-19 patients<\/strong>. They both have been to the \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng Hospital and had contact with previously confirmed patients.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the H\u00f2a B\u00ecnh General Hospital in the northern province of H\u00f2a B\u00ecnh declared 4 patients free of the virus<\/strong> and discharged them yesterday. All 4 are Vietnamese citizens repatriated from other countries in mid-July who were quarantined upon arrival.<\/p>\n

Since the novel coronavirus first crossed Vietnam\u2019s borders, the country has recorded a total of 672 patient cases<\/strong>. 378 have recovered, while 8 have succumbed to COVID-19. 286 patients remain in treatment as of this moment.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, upon receiving \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng\u2019s call for assistance, authorities in the northern city of H\u1ea3i Ph\u00f2ng agreed to send a team of 8 doctors and 25 nurses<\/strong> to the central city to share the healthcare burden with local medical staff. The team is expected to set out on 8th August<\/strong>. H\u1ea3i Ph\u00f2ng will also provide \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng and Qu\u1ea3ng Nam with funds of VND5 billion <\/strong>each.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Hanoi, where the majority of COVID-19 patients in northern Vietnam were treated, is also sending two experts to the \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng Hospital to help treat critical patients. Further support is promised depending on how the pandemic situation develops.<\/p>\n

The National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control held a meeting yesterday, as reported by Vietnam\u2019s Government Portal<\/a>. At the meeting, officials asserted that most of the new infections reported in the past couple of weeks are linked to the cluster of 3 adjacent hospitals in \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng, including the \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng Hospital<\/strong><\/a>, the \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng Hospital C<\/strong><\/a>, and the \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng Orthopedic and Physical Rehabilitation Hospital<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The only COVID-19 cases found in major cities such as Hanoi and H\u1ed3 Ch\u00ed Minh City so far are people returning from \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng, and there have been no reported infections from these patients. As a result, the Committee has asserted that the situation is still under control<\/strong>, though it does warn that we\u2019ll be seeing more confirmed cases and likely more deaths in the coming days.<\/p>\n

Vietnam\u2019s COVID-19 situation, update on 5th August 2020<\/h3>\n
\n

It is true that the new wave of COVID-19 infections has yielded some concerning numbers, including hundreds of new cases in the span of just over a week, or confirmed deaths. However, the biggest clusters are being contained, and authorities have been performing intensive contact tracing to curb the spread of the virus.<\/p>\n

So there is no reason to panic right now. Let\u2019s all remain calm and carry out preventive measures to protect ourselves and the community.<\/p>\n
