COVID-19 in Vietnam, update on 27th July 2020<\/h2>\n

Vietnam\u2019s streak of 100 days staying clear of COVID-19 community transmission was officially broken on Saturday<\/strong> when a 57-year-old man living in the central city of \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng<\/a> was confirmed positive for the novel coronavirus. Since then, a total of 4 community infections associated with the city have been discovered.<\/p>\n

We reported on the second community transmission in \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng<\/a> yesterday noon, and in the evening, the Ministry of Health announced two additional cases<\/strong>, including a 71-year-old woman living in the city<\/strong> and a 17-year-old man from Qu\u1ea3ng Ng\u00e3i City who had visited \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng<\/strong> to take care of a sick relative.<\/p>\n

These two, documented as Patient 419 and Patient 420<\/strong>, are the latest COVID-19 cases recorded in Vietnam to this moment, pushing the country\u2019s total patient tally to 420<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Patient 419<\/strong> is a 17-year-old man from Qu\u1ea3ng Ng\u00e3i City, 150KM south of \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng. On 14th July,<\/strong> he came to the Orthopedic and Physical Rehabilitation Hospital of \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng<\/strong> to take care of his brother who had broken his leg in an accident. Patient 419 stayed at the hospital for 3 days before returning to Qu\u1ea3ng Ng\u00e3i by bus on 17th July<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On 20th July, he came to the hospital again<\/strong>, and returned to Qu\u1ea3ng Ng\u00e3i on 22nd July<\/strong>, this time by train. Around this time, he developed symptoms of fever and coughing and visited Qu\u1ea3ng Ng\u00e3i City\u2019s General Hospital for a check-up. He had his samples taken for COVID-19 testing on 24th July and was confirmed positive on 26th July<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Orthopedic and Physical Rehabilitation Hospital of \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng is located next to the \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng Hospital<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and the \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng Hospital C<\/strong><\/a>, both of which are currently under lockdown for being associated with Patient 416 and Patient 418, two previously confirmed COVID-19 community transmissions in the city.<\/p>\n

Patient 420<\/strong> is a 71-year-old woman living in \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng with her husband, son, and daughter-in-law. She was in H\u1ed3 Ch\u00ed Minh City between 21st June and 8th July<\/strong> to visit her daughter.<\/p>\n

After returning to \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng on 8th July, she came to the H\u00f2a C\u01b0\u1eddng Wholesale Market<\/strong><\/a> for groceries and also visited a sibling living on 2\/9 Street, H\u1ea3i Ch\u00e2u District<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

By 12th July, she started experiencing chest pain and a fever. Her condition worsened over the next few days, so she came to the \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng Hospital C for diagnosis on 21st July. The patient was then tested and confirmed positive for COVID-19 on 26th July<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As the new patients had spent time in the community before being discovered and quarantined, authorities in \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng and Qu\u1ea3ng Ng\u00e3i are urgently tracking people who have been to the same public places as the patients <\/strong>in an effort to contain the disease.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health issued an emergency alert<\/strong><\/a> to look for:<\/p>\n
