Lost-and-found stories are not uncommon in Vietnam. Just in the past month, we\u2019ve heard multiple accounts of train staff<\/a> members and students<\/a> finding lost wallets and returning them.<\/p>\n

For the most part, though, when we find someone\u2019s lost items, our first thoughts tend to be to contact the police or the nearest authority and let them take care of things from there.<\/p>\n

This woman from \u0110\u00e0 L\u1ea1t<\/strong>, however, wanted to be absolutely sure that the original owner of a lost wallet<\/strong> she found got their item back. Upon finding the wallet that belonged to a tourist from another city, she went the extra mile to send it back via post<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The woman wanted to return the wallet as soon as possible<\/h3>\n

Earlier this month, Di\u1ec7p Thanh Nguy\u1ec5n, a 20-year-old girl from Bi\u00ean H\u00f2a City, \u0110\u1ed3ng Nai Province took to Facebook<\/a> to share her extraordinary lost-and-found story.<\/p>\n

According to Di\u1ec7p, she had gone on a vacation to \u0110\u00e0 L\u1ea1t a few days earlier, but lost her wallet<\/strong> just before she returned home. Understandably, she was very upset, as all the lost papers, including her ID, student card, driving license, and more, would take ages for the issuing authorities to help her remake.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thankfully, Di\u1ec7p did not have to stay upset for long, as just a couple of days later, she came home from school to find that a package had been delivered to her home<\/strong>, and inside it was her lost wallet.<\/p>\n

The sender did not disclose their name<\/strong> and only left a phone number<\/strong> along with a message telling Di\u1ec7p to call and let them know once she got the wallet back<\/strong>. Inside the package was another handwritten note, which reads:<\/p>\n

\u201cI found this near a trash can. This is all it had inside, I\u2019m sending it back just as I found it. I can\u2019t call you because there\u2019s no phone number. Sorry for rummaging through your stuff, I just wanted to find some information to contact you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Di\u1ec7p said the money she had in the wallet was lost. It seems someone else had found it beforehand, taken the money, then thrown the rest away before her wallet was found by the good Samaritan. Still, she was grateful to get her papers inside back.<\/p>\n

In a later update, Di\u1ec7p shared that she had called the number and found out that the sender was an older lady. During their conversation, the lady said she initially intended to notify the police<\/strong>, but then found a student card in the wallet. Afraid that Di\u1ec7p would not be able to go to school without it<\/strong>, she sent the wallet back via post<\/strong> to make sure it got to her as fast as possible.<\/p>\n

Di\u1ec7p then asked for the woman\u2019s address to send her some gifts as thanks, but she refused, saying that she was happy simply to know that Di\u1ec7p got her wallet back<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The kind-hearted woman was recognized by the authority<\/h3>\n

Di\u1ec7p\u2019s story received a lot of public attention, prompting local authorities in \u0110\u00e0 L\u1ea1t to seek out the kind woman to reward her<\/strong> for her display of integrity. It took several calls and a lot of convincing before she revealed that her name was Nguy\u1ec5n V\u00e2n N\u1eef Huy\u1ec1n Ch\u00e2u<\/strong>, currently living in \u0110\u00e0 L\u1ea1t.<\/p>\n

In a ceremony held this Monday by the People\u2019s Committee of \u0110\u00e0 L\u1ea1t City to honor exemplary citizens, Mdm. Ch\u00e2u was awarded a Certificate of Good Deed<\/strong>. She told Thanh Ni\u00ean<\/a>, \u201cI think it\u2019s just the natural thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

If you\u2019ve ever lost your wallet, you probably know how distressing the experience can be. This woman\u2019s act of kindness has spared a young girl weeks \u2013 or maybe even months \u2013 of tiresome work to remake its contents. It is stories like these that help restore our faith in humanity.<\/p>\n
