Amputee veteran at COVID-19 security post<\/h2>\n

In an effort to contain COVID-19 and minimizing risks of inter-provincial infection, Vietnam\u2019s authorities have set up security posts in multiple provinces<\/strong> to monitor people’s movements.<\/p>\n

Many have volunteered to work at these security posts to contribute to the community. But while their spirits are all commendable, one particular volunteer \u2013 a 73-year-old veteran who lost a leg during the Vietnam War \u2013 has been earning\u00a0 respect from netizens for his dedication lately.<\/p>\n

Mr. Nguy\u1ec5n V\u0103n Th\u1ea1o, a war veteran living in the K\u1ef3 H\u00e0 commune of H\u00e0 T\u0129nh Province, joined the army in 1965<\/strong> when he had just turned 18 to fight in the Vietnam War. Two years later, he suffered heavy injuries in a battle and had to have his left leg amputated<\/strong>. Afterwards, he was removed from the frontline and continued to perform support duties.<\/p>\n

When the war was over, Mr. Th\u1ea1o returned home and continued to lead a humble life, but his kind heart earned him the respect of his neighbors. Mr. L\u00ea V\u0103n Luy\u1ec7n, Chairman of K\u1ef3 H\u00e0 Commune\u2019s People Committee, told D\u00e2n Tr\u00ed<\/a>, \u201cWhenever someone needs help, Uncle Th\u1ea1o is there to lend a hand. Everyone around here loves and respects him so much.\u201d<\/p>\n

With such a will to help people in need, it is understandable that Mr. Th\u1ea1o would not stand by and watch while Vietnam musters all available resources to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past few days, pictures of him working at a local COVID-19 security post have made headlines, earning respect from netizens.<\/p>\n

Speaking of his deeds, the old soldier simply said, \u201cI\u2019m ready whenever my country needs me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Th\u1ea1o\u2019s story made headlines on multiple news sites, helping to promote the national effort to fend off the disease.<\/p>\n

The elderly help combat COVID-19<\/h3>\n
\n

Vietnamese citizens from all walks of life, from teenagers<\/a> to the working class<\/a> to the elderly<\/a>, are all contributing to the fight against COVID-19 in their own ways.<\/p>\n

It is thanks to this social unity that we have been able to keep the disease at bay, recording only 268 cases with no fatalities so far<\/a>.<\/p>\n
