Saigon – Cholon Chinese-Vietnamese Cultural Gallery<\/h2>\n

To conserve and celebrate the culture of people living in Cholon and its surroundings, <\/span>Ph\u00f2ng tr\u01b0ng b\u00e0y v\u0103n h\u00f3a ng\u01b0\u1eddi Hoa S\u00e0i G\u00f2n – Ch\u1ee3 L\u1edbn <\/b>(\u897f\u5824\u83ef\u4eba\u6587\u5316\u9673\u5217\u5ba4), or Saigon-Cholon Chinese-Vietnamese Cultural Gallery in English, has been established.<\/span><\/p>\n

Though small compared to other museums in Saigon and privately run, the space has drawn much attention from not only locals but also foreign tourists.<\/p>\n

Established in June 2019, this Saigon-Cholon Chinese-Vietnamese Cultural Gallery has gained a special position in the Chinese-Vietnamese community in Cholon. Visiting the gallery, you can see <\/span>up to 2,500 artifacts from different eras<\/b>. Some are approximately hundreds of years old, meaning that they are from the time when the Chinese first came to southern Vietnam.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Unlike other museums in H\u1ed3 Ch\u00ed Minh City, you won\u2019t see any planes or weapons here. Instead, what makes this gallery special are the casual objects that the locals used in their daily lives. At one corner of the gallery, you will catch sight of the <\/span>scented cloth sachets<\/span> of different shapes, a mahjong table, <\/span>old Chinese certificates,<\/span> traditional clothes, and so on.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is worth mentioning that this gallery is privately owned. Its owner is D\u01b0\u01a1ng R\u1ea1ch Sanh (\u694a\u8fea\u751f), also known as K\u1ef3 L\u00e2n (\u9e92\u9e9f), a former journalist of the Chinese edition of the <\/span>S\u00e0i G\u00f2n Gi\u1ea3i Ph\u00f3ng <\/span><\/i>newspaper. In order to form the gallery, he has reached out to many senior citizens in Cholon to consult them and ask them for artifact contributions.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an interview, he shared that the locals initially cast doubt on his initiative of a Chinese-Vietnamese museum. However, watching his relentless efforts and commitment to his idea, the locals were gradually persuaded and even supported him by contributing their own relics. <\/span><\/p>\n

To spread his idea to as many people as possible, he also wrote about his curation work in a Chinese-language book named <\/span>In search of Saigon – Cholon past<\/span><\/i> (\u897f\u5824\u7684\u898b\u8b49).<\/span><\/p>\n

On 17th April 2021, at Saigon-Cholon Chinese-Vietnamese Cultural Gallery, the Vietnamese Guinness Records Committee <\/span>officially recognized<\/span><\/a> D\u01b0\u01a1ng R\u1ea1ch Sanh as the owner of the biggest collection of pre-1975 Chinese-Vietnamese relics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This recognition, along with the government and locals\u2019 support, gives Sanh a huge motivation to collect more artifacts and develop his gallery further. In fact, Sanh is still on his quest to find more artifacts for the gallery. <\/span><\/p>\n
