Update on COVID-19 in Vietnam, 24th March 2020<\/b><\/h2>\n

Since <\/span>our update yesterday<\/span><\/a>, Vietnam has recorded 7 more new COVID-19 cases in the country. The total tally is sitting at 123 as of 11AM, 24<\/span>th<\/span> March.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, to further combat the virus, the Vietnamese government has ordered that <\/span>all flights transporting Vietnamese citizens from foreign countries to T\u00e2n S\u01a1n Nh\u1ea5t Airport, H\u1ed3 Ch\u00ed Minh City <\/b>are to be redirected to other airports in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

7 new COVID-19 cases were reported over the past 24 hours, putting the total tally at 123.<\/span><\/p>\n

Case 117<\/b> is a 30-year-old male who lives in Long An province. He was in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 9<\/span>th<\/span> to 19<\/span>th<\/span> March, after which he returned to Vietnam via the M\u1ed9c B\u00e0i border gate, where he was found to be showing symptoms. The man was then quarantined and tested.<\/span><\/p>\n

Case 118 <\/b>is a 23-year-old female who lives in An Giang province. She worked at a casino in Cambodia, returned to Vietnam on 19<\/span>th<\/span> March via the M\u1ed9c B\u00e0i border gate, and was quarantined as she was showing symptoms.<\/span><\/p>\n

Case 119<\/b>: is a 29-year-old American man who lives in B\u00ecnh Th\u1ea1nh District, H\u1ed3 Ch\u00ed Minh City. He traveled back and forth between Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand from 1<\/span>st<\/span> to 15<\/span>th<\/span> March, started showing symptoms on 19<\/span>th<\/span> March, and was quarantined for diagnosis on 20<\/span>th<\/span> March.<\/span><\/p>\n

Case 120<\/b> is a 27-year-old Canadian man who lives in District 2, H\u1ed3 Ch\u00ed Minh City. He came into close contact with case 91 and was quarantined on 19<\/span>th<\/span> March.<\/span><\/p>\n

Case 121<\/b> is a 58-year-old male who lives in T\u00e2n B\u00ecnh District, H\u1ed3 Ch\u00ed Minh City. He returned with his wife from New York on 19<\/span>th<\/span> March and was quarantined according to regulations. He has now been confirmed to be positive.<\/span><\/p>\n

Case 122<\/b> is a 24-year-old female who lives in H\u00e0 T\u0129nh province. She worked in a bar in Bangkok, Thailand and returned to \u0110\u00e0 N\u1eb5ng, Vietnam on 20<\/span>th<\/span> March.<\/span><\/p>\n

Case 123<\/b> is a 17-year-old female who lives in B\u1ebfn Tre province. She lived in Sarawak, Malaysia for over 3 months before returning to T\u00e2n S\u01a1n Nh\u1ea5t Airport, H\u1ed3 Ch\u00ed Minh City on 17<\/span>th<\/span> March.<\/span><\/p>\n

On 14<\/span>th<\/span> March, the Vietnamese government ordered that all travellers arriving from countries significantly affected by COVID-19, such as China, the US, and those in the Schengen area of Europe would be subjected to mandatory quarantine. A week later, on 21<\/span>st<\/span> March, this rule was turned up a notch, extending to people arriving from every country.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, this has put strong pressure on quarantine facilities around the metropolises of Hanoi and H\u1ed3 Ch\u00ed Minh City.<\/span><\/p>\n

In response, and in carrying out the Vietnamese government\u2019s directives to limit international flights to the country, the Transport Ministry has mandated that <\/span>from 25<\/b>th<\/b> to 31<\/b>st<\/b> March, the T\u00e2n S\u01a1n Nh\u1ea5t Airport in Ho Chi Minh City will stop accepting flights carrying Vietnamese citizens returning from foreign countries.<\/b> Instead, these flights will be redirected to land at airports in other provinces<\/strong>, where quarantine facilities are more adequate.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is in addition to the previous news that <\/span>all foreigners have been banned from entering the country as of 22<\/span>nd<\/span> March<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
