YouTuber criticised for “insensitive” statement
YouTubers with over millions of followers are able to bring much-needed entertainment to netizens in times of isolation.
This Thai YouTuber and solo female traveler Mint – who goes by the username I Roam Alone and vlogs her travels across the globe – recently posted about her travels to the United States. In the video, she shared with her audience on how Covid-19 may have its “positive” sides.
However, the tables seemed to have turned on her after her enthusiastic remarks – as she has received criticism from other netizens.
We take a closer look at her statement that caused netizens to react this way.

Covid-19 has a good side, stated the YouTuber
On 22nd May 2021, she uploaded her vlog about her trip to the United States, where she received a Covid-19 vaccination. The video received over 1 million views on YouTube.
Towards the end of the video, she asserted that being able to fly overseas feels very special to her.

Mint asserted that the upside to the Covid-19 pandemic is a timely reminder to appreciate travel and the small things in life.
Who is I Roam Alone?
After the video went viral, Mint’s statement drew a lot of criticism from other netizens. Here’s a few snippets of what they’ve shared in response.

Who is I Roam Alone?
I Roam Alone, or Mint, is an inspirational female figure to many Thai millennials, because of her brave choice to embark on solo-travelling experiences.
This adventurer has been to countries that are deemed “unsafe” for solo female travelers. During her vlogs, she often appears with local guides or her friends.

Sharing travel vlogs during Covid-19
With travel being almost impossible for many right now, sharing vlogs in the midst of the pandemic can be very insightful.
Audience members may even get the chance to live vicariously through the vlogger, and gain a better understanding of travelling in the new normal.
That said, we should still be careful in wording our observations towards the ongoing pandemic, to avoid being in a tricky situation like Mint.
