Truck slides off road into restaurant
A 9-year-old girl in Phuket was killed in a freak accident after a pick-up truck hydroplaned into an outdoor restaurant in Phuket at around 8.30pm last night.
According to The Thaiger, the restaurant had tables set up outside a motorbike shop. Due to wet roads, the truck driver had lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the restaurant and into the motorbike shop’s windows. He had also hit a car and motorbike before crashing into the shops.

The driver, 31-year-old Suwit Rakkarn, was at the scene when the police arrived. He explained that it was raining while on his way to Phang Nga, and due to slipper roads, he lost control and drove straight into the restaurant and shop.

1 dead and 7 injured

One woman suffered from severe head injuries, with blood coming out of her ears. The other 6 people only had minor injuries and cuts. Unfortunately, the nine-year-old was found unconscious by officials and was pronounced dead at Thalang Hospital, where the others are currently being treated.

The driver also suffered from minor injuries. Tests have yet to be conducted to confirm whether this was an alcohol-related incident, reports Phuket News.
“At this stage, we have not decided what charge he will face, as we are still waiting for the alcohol test result and we will question him more after he is discharged from the hospital,” said Maj Sornthip Chukaew of the Tha Chatchai police department.
