A new viral challenge called Skullbreaker, also known as Tripping Jump, has taken TikTok by storm and it’s every parent’s nightmare. 

The challenge is basically a prank. It requires 2 people to fool their friend in the middle to jump, before kicking their legs mid-air, causing the victim to fall on their back and head. All while being recorded on video for likes and shares.

Last November, A 16-year-old Brazilian girl reportedly suffered from head trauma and died from the prank. In the US, a mother shared her experience on Facebook after her son was hospitalised with severe injuries for the same reason. 

So far, no case of injuries or deaths due to the challenge has been reported in Thailand yet.

Dr Thanin Wechapinan, the director of the Prasat Neurological Institute, said that the person who falls has a high chance of cracking their skull – thus the term, Skullbreaker. 

In the worst-case scenario, the victim will have internal bleeding or a cervical spine injury that could lead to paralysis or even death.

For the legal aspect, Deputy Police Spokesman Pol.Col. Kissana Phatanacharoen revealed that anyone who causes serious injury or death can be sentenced to up to 10 years in jail and pay the maximum fine of ฿200,000 under Section 297 of the law, regarding bodily harm.

We know by heart that youngsters love to have fun and just want to be a part of something “cool.” But let’s face it, this life-threatening prank is not at all cool and it’s best to drop it.
