Pattani imposes mask penalty
On 9th January 2021, Pattani Governor issued an order that would penalise those not wearing a mask outside their homes can be penalised up to ฿20,000 (~USD664). The regulation seems to follow the rising number of Covid-19 cases in Thailand, as well as other regulations.
Local governments impose new rules
The Royal Thai Government maintains a “no nation-wide lockdown” stance and continues to trust local governments to do what’s best for their regions. They’ve responded by going into lockdown, imposing travel restrictions as well as fines for not wearing a mask.

Curb the spread, save your money
2021 really seems like the more fast-paced sequel to 2020. With coronavirus continuing to spread, but in a more aggressive manner this round, it’s probably best to save that $600 for a trip in 2022 or beyond.
