During this time of year, Mexican sunflowers, known by the locals as bua tong, are in full bloom and take over Doi Mae U-Kho or Mae U-Kho hill – mountains after mountains are plastered in bright yellow as far as our eyes can see.

So, the province holds the festival every year to welcome travellers from the south. The festival is happening right now until early December.

With yellow flowers taking over 200 acres, Doi Mae U-Kho is believed to be Thailand’s largest Mexican sunflower field according to Bangkok Post.

As the name suggests, Mexican sunflowers are a plant from Latin America that was brought to Thailand by Christian Missionaries many years ago.

We can say that this festival is definitely worthy of your time.
